RSC STEERING COMMITTEE TAKES OFFICIAL POSITION ON BCA CAPS
WASHINGTON – Today, the Steering Committee of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) took an official position to adopt a letter by the RSC Budget and Spending Task Force to congressional leadership outlining necessary requirements for any agreement to raise the discretionary spending caps imposed by the Budget Control Act of 2011.
Chairman Mike Johnson (R-La.) and the RSC Steering Committee released the following statement:
| "For too long, Congress has dodged its responsibility to provide fiscally sound solutions that will ensure the continued security and prosperity of our great nation. As the largest caucus of conservatives in Congress, it is the Republican Study Committee's duty to insist upon better stewardship and to oppose irresponsible efforts to raise discretionary limits. It is in every American's best interests for the House and Senate to keep the important promises that were made in the Budget Control Act." |
Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), chairman of the Budget & Spending Task Force, released the following statement:
| "It's long past time that Washington do what every hard-working family across America does every day – balance the budget. Holding the line on discretionary spending is critical if we are to eliminate our over $22 trillion debt. An important first step toward achieving this goal is adhering to the budget caps Congress agreed to in the Budget Control Act that keep Washington's addiction to spending in check." |
BACKGROUND:
The letter urges adherence to the current-law discretionary spending caps for FY 2020 and FY 2021 for base spending and resolves to reject any caps deal unless it is fully offset, enacts a long term spending control and does not irresponsibly swell the size of the federal discretionary budget.
