Capital Offense: Why D.C. Desperately Needs Accountability
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Republican Study Committee (RSC) Article One Task Force Chair Harriet Hageman authored a new op-ed in the Daily Caller urging Congress to fulfill its Article One responsibilities and conduct oversight over Washington, D.C. to make our nation’s capital safe and prosperous again.
Behind closed doors, the D.C. City Council has betrayed residents with soft-on-crime policies and backroom deals that shut out law-abiding residents and put them in danger. Years of failed leadership and a deliberate lack of transparency have left the nation’s capital in shambles, just as it prepares to host historic events drawing millions of visitors.
Rep. Hageman correctly states in the piece that the stakes for taking back the nation’s capital have never been higher: “President Trump’s Executive Order on “Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful” is long overdue and what we desperately needed. It is not just about fighting crime, it is about coordinating beautification, restoring monuments and statues, and ensuring the cleanliness of public spaces. With President Trump’s unwavering leadership and proper Congressional oversight, Washington, D.C. will reclaim its rightful place as the shining symbol of American strength and dignity.”
