Chairman Pfluger Emphasizes WNBA Deadline: Answer for Player Safety or Face Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Republican Study Committee Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11) joined Newsmax TV's Bianca Across the Nation, pressing the WNBA to answer for its handling of attacks on Caitlin Clark and other players and laying out the RSC's continued priorities for a third reconciliation package, centered on affordability, defense, and rooting out fraud.

Pfluger led a group of 11 House Republicans in a letter demanding that WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert address the league's response to the targeting of its players, with a deadline of July 24th for response. He argues that Congress has clear jurisdiction to act given the WNBA's status under interstate commerce laws, and that a hearing could be on the table if the league refuses to enforce accountability.

On the WNBA letter sent by RSC Members:
Chairman Pfluger: “Why are they allowing her to be targeted unfairly, without penalties, without sanctions, without so much as the smallest enforcement? We want answers.”

Chairman Pfluger: “I wonder if she'd like to testify in front of Congress as to the actions that her officials are not doing to protect their players. We can start with that…This is not unprecedented. Many leagues have sat before Congress and testified.”

On the RSC's framework for reconciliation:
Chairman Pfluger: “Reconciliation is a tool where we can recapture the gains that have been fraudulently spent, taxpayer dollars that have gone out the window, and we know where that money is. Let's codify those gains.”

Chairman Pfluger: “We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity right now to pass the Save America Act, to recapitalize our military and to attack fraud…Democrats will not vote to increase defense spending. They are shutting the government down, and they are obstructing the basics of governing.”
