Chairman Pfluger Marks 25 Years Since 9/11, Warns Communism Poses New Threat to America

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11) joined “Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy” on Fox News to discuss the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, his experience serving in the U.S. Air Force in the years following, the lasting impacts of the attacks on America, and the importance of remaining vigilant against threats to our nation today.

Friday marks 25 years since America faced the deadliest terrorist attack in history. Chairman Pfluger, who graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy and earned his commission to the U.S. Air Force in 2000, reflected on how 9/11 transformed the lives and missions of an entire generation of servicemembers. Drawing on more than two decades of military service, Chairman Pfluger emphasized that the threats facing America have evolved and the need for vigilance remains.

Chairman Pfluger also called out the rise of anti-American rhetoric from the Socialist wing of the Democrat Party, warning that their agenda undermines the principles that define America.

Chairman Pfluger on Serving in the Air Force Post-9/11
“I had just signed up to join the Air Force and been commissioned at the Air Force Academy, and I was about a week or two away from graduating pilot training. So, I had already made a decision to serve and didn’t know the type of airplane that I would be selected to fly, which at that time would be the F-15. Just a week or two before our graduation ceremony, we’re seeing these images [on 9/11] and the path and the trajectory of our career, and those who I graduated with changed on that day. Like every American’s lives changed, but it significantly changed those that I served with because they would be deployed basically perpetually. And some, in many locations, haven’t even come home yet. So, my memories were of sadness and tragedy and really of a feeling of whoever did this, we're going to go get them, and we’re going to make sure that it never happens again.”

Chairman Pfluger on How 9/11 Changed the Nation
“I saw pictures a few weeks ago of an airport scene before 9/11, and you know how different it is now. The whole world changed that day…I think we should remember right now that the threat environment is much more complex, and there are still those out there that want to destroy our way of life, that want to destroy the United States of America and the freedoms that we have. And we have to be vigilant because the threats are all around us. And maybe it’s not the hijacking of an airplane today or tomorrow, but they are there. The threats are absolutely present in our lives.”

Chairman Pfluger on the Socialists’ Use of Anti-American Rhetoric
“It’s really hard to imagine that people like El-Sayed and Zohran Mamdani, who are absolute Communists and seem to hate America. They hate the values we were founded on. They hate what we stand for, and they really do want to destroy it. But they’re palling around with guys like Hasan Piker, who is openly anti-Semitic. He is showing his violent rhetoric and has been kicked off multiple platforms because of that, but how sad it is that you know on 9/11 we had airplanes that were hijacked and over 3,000 people lost their lives because of that. But now the Democrat Party has been hijacked by people like Piker and Sayed and Mamdani, who want to destroy America from within. And we’re not going to let that happen. We’re going to keep fighting for the freedoms that we have enjoyed for 250 years.”
