Chairman Pfluger: Republicans Must Deliver on Trump Agenda Through Reconciliation 2.0
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman August Pfluger (R-TX) appeared on Newsmax this morning highlighting Republicans' focus on delivering legislative victories before the end of the 119th Congress, with reconciliation emerging as the key vehicle to advance President Trump's priorities on healthcare and tax reform.
Speaking about the Republican Study Committee's Making the American Dream Affordable Again framework, Chairman Pfluger emphasized that Republicans are positioned to finally deliver meaningful healthcare reform after 15 years of attempts to repeal and replace Obamacare.
The RSC’s framework aligns closely with President Trump's Great Healthcare Plan, focusing on redirecting money away from insurance companies and back to American families. Chairman Pfluger explained that President Trump told Republicans in early January that he wants to stop giving money to insurance companies and instead allow Americans to receive that money and spend it as they choose to take care of their families and healthcare needs.
KEY QUOTES FROM THE INTERVIEW:
On the RSC’s framework: “The framework we released as part of the Republican Study Committee is Making the American Dream Affordable Again. This has many of the provisions that the President suggested in his speech about how to reduce the cost of healthcare. And in fact, your question is so well timed, because as we speak right now, the major insurance companies, their CEOs, are testifying in front of the Energy and Commerce Committee, and we're asking very tough questions about competition, the lack of competition, about why they have raised their rates. When the President addressed all of the Republicans in the beginning of January, he said: “We don't want to give money to insurance companies anymore. We want Americans to receive that and spend it as they choose, to take care of their families, to take care of their healthcare needs, instead of going to what has amounted to a bunch of Fortune 500 insurance companies.” So I think we're on the precipice of this. It's long been a criticism of the Republican Party, okay, fine, but we do now have good policy that I think we can get across the finish line.”
On House Republicans Returning to Regular Order: “This is really important, because this is President Trump’s funding bill, which reduces spending overall, reducing what President Biden was doing, and cuts out fraud and abuse of taxpayer money. So we’re proud to get this across the finish line.”
On the SAVE Act: “This is the most basic thing that we could ask of our states, which is just to make sure that the people that are voting are who they say they are, that they are citizens and that they represent an idea. We do this in Texas. Why are we not doing this when we vote?”
