D.C.'s Criminal Vacation is Over

August 20, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman August Pfluger and Rep. Brad Knott co-authored a new op-ed in The Hill emphasizing the overdue need for President Trump's federal takeover of our nation's crime-ridden capital.

The Congressmen, both members of the House Committee on Homeland Security, detail how Washington, D.C. has become a playground for criminals under the city's leadership. Their piece describes how carjackings, robberies, and violent crime have spiraled out of control in recent years. They highlight President Trump's swift action to deploy federal resources and crack down on lawlessness. His message is clear: America's capital will no longer tolerate the chaos and violence that has driven away businesses and terrorized tourists and residents.

The lawmakers wrote, “without meaningful reform, Washington, D.C., will continue to spiral into chaos, jeopardizing the safety of residents, members of Congress and visitors alike. We cannot allow the nation’s capital to fall into lawlessness. Washington must be safe, clean and secure — not just for its residents, but as a model for the country and the world.”
