HEAT Leaders Applaud Passage of CRA to End Natural Gas Tax

February 27, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, RSC House Energy Action Team (HEAT) Chairman Rep. Troy Balderson (OH-12) and RSC Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11) released the following statement after the U.S. House voted to pass a Congressional Review Act to end the natural gas tax:

“The House took another important step in restoring a common sense, pro-growth energy agenda through passage of Chairman Pfluger’s Congressional Review Act resolution to overturn the EPA’s harmful tax on American energy production. The EPA’s ‘waste emissions charge’ rule, finalized in the waning days of the Biden administration, imposes a punitive tax on oil and natural gas facilities and represents the first time the federal government has ever directly levied a tax on emissions. It blatantly ignores the United States’ energy record over the past two decades following the shale revolution, during which we unleashed record levels of energy production while simultaneously cutting emissions drastically and growing the economy. The natural gas tax would stifle innovation and chill investment in domestic energy production, leading to higher energy costs for households and consumers and greater dependence on foreign energy. With passage of this resolution, our country is poised to unleash clean, affordable, and abundant domestic energy."
