House Delivers Decisive Victory with Passage of the Laken Riley Act
WASHINGTON, DC — The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Laken Riley Act, a bill expanding federal detention requirements for illegal immigrants who commit crimes on U.S. soil.
The Laken Riley Act was introduced by RSC-member Rep. Mike Collins (GA-10) to crack down on immigration enforcement protocols.
“Nearly one year ago, an illegal immigrant came across our border and killed Laken Riley. Today, House Republicans and Democrats joined together to ensure that no family has to go through the pain that Laken Riley’s has,” said Rep. Mike Collins. “I hope to see the same level of bipartisan support for this bill in the Senate, and I urge my Senate counterparts to put this on President Trump’s desk and save lives.”
“The Laken Riley Act puts the safety of the American people first," said Chairman August Pfluger. "Laken's killer should have never been free to roam this country, especially not after committing crimes in the U.S. This bill is a crucial first step towards protecting American citizens from reckless open border policies by ensuring ICE can do its job to protect our communities and detain criminal aliens. I am proud to be a part of the team that is addressing our border crisis head-on and applaud RSC-member Rep. Mike Collins for his important work on this legislation.”
The legislation now heads to the Senate for a vote.
