ICYMI: Budget Chairman Credits RSC Framework for Driving Reconciliation 3.0 Affordability Agenda
WASHINGTON, D.C. — House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (TX-19) credited the Republican Study Committee's (RSC) framework as the foundation for Reconciliation 3.0's affordability provisions during an interview on Punchbowl News' Fly Out Day podcast this week.
"We have six legislative weeks, we have about 25 legislative days left," Arrington said, underscoring the urgent timeline to pass the package before defense funding runs out in August."
The Budget Chairman outlined a three-part reconciliation strategy centered on funding the troops, cutting fraud, and delivering relief on healthcare and housing costs. Arrington pointed to specific RSC-backed proposals including health savings account expansion, cost sharing reduction reforms that CBO projects would lower Affordable Care Act premiums by 11 percent, penalty-free 401(k) withdrawals for down payments, and capital gains relief for home sales.
"Those are well defined. Many of those [proposals] are coming out of the Republican Study Committee, which by the way is like 90 percent of all of the members," Arrington said.
The Budget Chairman emphasized that fraud enforcement is essential to energizing voters heading into the midterm election.
"I don't know of anything that will motivate and energize voters more right now than the affordability paid for by the war on fraud," Arrington said.
RSC Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11) reinforced the caucus’s commitment to delivering targeted relief on the issues hitting American families hardest.
"RSC has developed the policy framework to tackle affordability with proven solutions like health savings account expansion and targeted tax relief for first-time homebuyers. We're going to pay for these measures by cracking down on the hundreds of billions in fraud plaguing federal programs and clawing that money back for hardworking taxpayers. Chairman Arrington's leadership on Reconciliation 3.0 gives us the opportunity to deliver on these priorities, and RSC is ready to get it done,” said Chairman Pfluger.
