MISSION COMPLETE: Pete Hegseth Confirmed as Defense Secretary

January 24, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC — Pete Hegseth was confirmed today as the new Secretary of Defense, marking a critical turning point for America's national security. Hegseth will bring a fresh perspective rooted in combat experience and strategic vision to address critical challenges facing our nation’s military.

Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11), RSC National Security Task Force Chair Rep. Zach Nunn (IA-03), and RSC National Security Task Force Vice-Chair Rep. James Moylan (GU) applauded the Senate’s confirmation of soon-to-be Secretary Hegseth:

"Secretary Hegseth is exactly what our military needs right now," said RSC Chairman August Pfluger. "We're getting our military back on track to deter our enemies and restore warfighting readiness that was lost under the previous administration. Hegseth understands that our core mission is delivering overwhelming, precise military capability that makes our enemies tremble. By eliminating failed Biden-era policies and restoring a military focused on deterrence, strength, and readiness, America will re-emerge as the undisputed global military superpower, ensuring our adversaries know that weakness is not an option and America is back – stronger, more lethal, and more resolute than ever before.”

“It is critical our frontline troops have a combat tested leader at the helm of Department of Defense — a leader focused on protection our nation, prioritizing our fighting forces, and ensuring Peace through Strength. Anything less harms our men and women putting their lives on the line in defense of our nation,” said Rep. Zach Nunn, RSC National Security Task Force Chair.

“I’m proud to congratulate Secretary Hegseth on his confirmation as the new Secretary of Defense,” said Rep. James Moylan, RSC National Security Task Force Vice-Chair. During his confirmation process, Mr. Hegseth went out of his way to recognize the strategic importance of Guam. For patriotic Americans residing in my district, where we have among the highest enlistments per capita in the nation, national security is an everyday issue. Having a secretary of defense who will prioritize the safety and wellbeing of my constituents and for the islands surrounding the Pacific is non-negotiable. I sleep well at night knowing that the Trump Administration has chosen the right man for the job and, as both a Member of HASC and the Vice-Chair of the RSC’s National Security Task Force, I look forward to working with him and the incoming Department of Defense leadership.”

The RSC stands ready to work hand-in-hand with President Trump’s cabinet to make America safe and battle-ready again. That starts with confirming strong cabinet nominees like Pete Hegseth.
