Rep. Guest: America Isn’t Rolling Out the Welcome Mat for Illegal Aliens Anymore
WASHINGTON, D.C. — As a migrant caravan from Honduras moves towards the Southwest border, Republican Study Committee Member Michael Guest (MS-03) is highlighting in a Newsweek op-ed how only the Trump administration’s border policies will stop these illegal aliens from succeeding.
After four years of the Biden-Harris administration’s dangerous open border policies, the Trump administration and Congressional Republicans in Washington have worked together to secure the border, restore law and order, and prioritize the interests of Americans over illegal aliens. That effort includes the Secure America Act, now signed into law, which funds ICE and Border Patrol through 2029 and ensures the radical Left can no longer hold border security funding hostage after Democrats caused the two longest shutdowns in American history.
Rep. Guest warns that policies supported by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) threaten the progress made under President Trump and create incentives for additional illegal immigration.
In the piece, Rep. Guest writes, “A migrant caravan that originated in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, began moving through southern Mexico recently with hopes of reaching the U.S.-Mexico border. The caravan is predominantly made up of Hondurans, Guatemalans, Salvadorans, Ecuadorians and Haitians and has reportedly swelled to more than 600 participants…Since taking office, the Trump administration has enforced a consistent policy: anyone who enters the country illegally will be apprehended, prosecuted and removed in accordance with federal law.”
He continues, “Democrats have attacked, and continue to attack, the policies that have made this enforcement possible, and some have gone so far as to hold Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding hostage. The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), an increasingly influential faction within their party, has called for amnesty for illegal aliens, taxpayer-subsidized health care for illegal aliens and the abolition of critical federal law enforcement agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These positions, which are gaining traction within the mainstream of the Democratic Party, undermine public safety and fiscal responsibility.”
Rep. Guest concludes, “Americans suffered under the Democrats’ open-border policies, and they responded by giving Republicans a mandate to secure our borders, deter criminal illegal aliens, and provide greater long-term security for America’s next generation. The progress we have made cannot be taken for granted…The caravan moving towards our border is a reminder that brazen attempts to illegally enter our country have not disappeared. However, thanks to President Trump and Congressional Republicans, they will find a safe and secure border that is closed to those trying to enter illegally.”
