Rep. Hamadeh, RSC Members Demand Accountability After Assassination Attempt Against President Trump

April 30, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Republican Study Committee (RSC) member Abe Hamadeh (AZ-08) introduced a resolution condemning the assassination attempt against President Donald Trump and members of his Cabinet at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

The resolution also calls for fully funding the Department of Homeland Security after the longest agency shutdown in history. With threats to the homeland growing and the United States set to host the FIFA World Cup, Democrats' continued obstruction is leaving America's defenses short.

RSC members condemned the attack and called for funding DHS without delay:

“Today I introduced a resolution condemning the assassination attempts on President Trump and honoring the brave officers who stopped them from becoming a tragedy. But let’s be clear: condemnation is not enough. We must confront the poisonous rhetoric coming from the left that is fueling this violence and lower the temperature before political violence becomes America’s new normal,” said Rep. Abe Hamadeh (AZ-08).

"This weekend was a sobering reminder of the dangerous threats this President faces every single day. Left-wing political violence is rapidly escalating, and I am proud to stand with Rep. Abe Hamadeh, who was there and who wasted no time demanding accountability. Congress must condemn this attack and fully fund DHS without delay. We cannot leave our agencies short-handed in a high threat environment,” said RSC Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11).

“Condemning the attempt on President Trump’s life Saturday night should be without disagreement,” said Rep. Marlin Stutzman (IN-03). “Thanks to Rep. Hamadeh and his security team, we were able to get out safe and unharmed. Attacks like this should never happen in a country where we have the freedom to use our words in the place of weapons to solve disputes.”

“It is absolutely incumbent on all Members of Congress to condemn the recent assassination attempt on President Trump in the strongest possible terms,” said Rep. Mike Rogers (AL-03). “The far left in this country has become all too permissive of political violence when directed toward President Trump. I was proud to join my colleagues in this resolution to state in no uncertain terms that this stature is morally bankrupt and to publicly denounce this most recent attempt on our President’s life.”

“I was proud to join Representative Hamadeh and my colleagues in condemning the senseless violence over the weekend that put the President’s life at risk.  I hope that we can take action soon to provide funding for DHS so the agency can play its role in countering the reckless demands and rhetoric of the left and the safety risks they create for our leaders,” said Rep. Clay Fuller (GA-14).

“Political violence has no place in this country, but sadly in the last few years alone we have seen three targeted attempts on the life of President Trump. The events at the WHCD on Saturday serve as a critical reminder that those who are protecting our President and country remain unfunded. We must fully fund those who keep our nation safe,” said Rep. Stephanie Bice (OK-05).

“Yet another attempt on President Trump’s life and members of his cabinet must serve as a reminder that political violence is never the answer. We all have a part to play to tone down the rhetoric in our country and civility must be the way forward. I’m grateful for the quick and thorough action by law enforcement and Secret Service whose agency remains shut down. It’s well beyond time to fully fund DHS,” said Rep. Dusty Johnson (SD-AL).

“This nation stood still in shock as President Trump was shot in Butler, Pennsylvania. We then witnessed yet another attempt on his life at Mar-a-Lago, and just this past Saturday, we were confronted once again with a grave and credible threat. This surge in political violence, fueled by reckless rhetoric aimed at our President, and rising extremism, is a stain on our nation and a direct affront to the values that define us as Americans,” said Rep. Wesley Hunt (TX-38). “At a moment like this, we must speak with clarity and conviction: all political violence must be condemned, unequivocally and without exception. And as these threats intensify, Congress has a responsibility to ensure that DHS is fully funded to protect our leaders, our institutions, and the American people during these high-risk times.”

“I was at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner when the attempted attack on President Trump and his Cabinet unfolded. The fact that our duly elected officials still have to fear for their lives is absurd. Political violence like this is un-American and must be met with absolute moral clarity. While Democrats play politics and delay critical DHS funding, our nation’s security is at risk. I stand firmly with President Trump, our law enforcement, and this resolution to fully fund DHS and put America’s safety first,” said Rep. Michael Rulli (OH-06).

“A third assassination attempt on President Trump is a sobering reminder of how far things have gone,” said Rep. Vince Fong (CA-20). "Political violence has no place in this country. The dangerous rhetoric targeting President Trump and Republicans isn’t harmless—it’s escalating, and it must be called out before more lives are put at risk.”

“I’m proud to cosponsor Rep. Hamadeh’s resolution condemning the assassination attempt against President Trump and members of his Cabinet. Political violence has no place in America, and in a high-threat environment, we must fully fund DHS and ensure our law enforcement and security personnel have the resources they need to protect our leaders and the American people,” said Rep. Troy Downing (MT-02).

“Our fearless Commander in Chief has shown time and again that he will not be deterred by political violence as he continues delivering results for the American people,” said Rep. Dave Taylor (OH-02). “I commend President Trump for his steadfast leadership in the face of all forms of opposition and will continue working alongside him to restore conservative, common sense principles to our nation. Thank you to my colleague, Rep. Hamadeh, for leading this resolution.”

“The assassination attempt against President Trump and his Cabinet officials at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner underscores the dangerous consequences of years of violent rhetoric from the liberal media. It also comes as Democrats refuse to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security, prioritizing illegal aliens over American citizens. The Secret Service, which falls under DHS, must be fully resourced to protect the President and his Administration in a high-threat environment. Anything else is fully unacceptable,”said Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05).
