Rep. Haridopolos: RSC's Reconciliation 2.0 Puts Fraudsters on Notice

January 23, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Republican Study Committee (RSC) Steering Committee Member Mike Haridopolos (R-FL) appeared on Rob Schmitt Tonight on Newsmax to highlight how the RSC’s Reconciliation 2.0 Framework targets waste, fraud, and abuse in Washington while putting American taxpayers first.

During the interview, Rep. Haridopolos emphasized that reconciliation is the only viable legislative pathway to deliver conservative reforms in the face of unified Democratic opposition. He underscored that the RSC’s Making the American Dream Affordable Again framework focuses on exposing and eliminating fraud across federal programs, ensuring taxpayer dollars are not diverted to wasteful projects or unlawfully distributed benefits.

Rep. Haridopolos highlighted the framework’s provisions to eliminate more than $1.6 trillion of bloated government spending, ensure taxpayer-funded benefits are reserved for Americans, and codify key Trump executive actions into law. He also pointed to major affordability reforms aimed at helping first-time homebuyers enter the housing market.

KEY QUOTES FROM THE INTERVIEW:

On why reconciliation is necessary:

“Democrats have Trump Derangement Syndrome. They will do anything to stop President Trump. So the only way we [can] get things done is to go through reconciliation, because to get 60 votes is very challenging.”

On cutting waste, fraud, and abuse:

“We [will] go after waste, fraud and abuse, as we've exposed the chaos in California, let alone the real fraud in Minnesota. We need to do these common sense things so the people who pay their taxes work hard every day, get the most bang for the buck instead of going to wasteful projects.”

On prioritizing Americans over illegal immigrants for taxpayer-funded benefits:

“Yes, we're the land of opportunity, but this should not be the land of welfare where people take advantage of the system, and that's clearly happening. We need to invest in Americans first, and we need to make sure that people who come here want to be a part of the American dream, not just plant their flag from other countries.”
