Rep. Harriet Hageman: “The DSA Welcomes You to the $47 Trillion Waiting Room”
WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a new op-ed for The Hill, the Republican Study Committee’s Article One Task Force Chair Harriet Hageman (WY-AL) warns that the Democrats’ Medicare for All proposal would cost Americans trillions of dollars over the next decade and violate their healthcare freedom.
Without any Democrat support, Republicans delivered the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which included a historic $50 billion investment in rural healthcare to help address longstanding challenges specific to rural residents. The Rural Health Transformation Program enables states to modernize their rural hospitals, expand the kinds of care they provide, and strengthen their rural healthcare workforce.
Democrats’ Medicare for All proposal would put Washington bureaucrats in charge of Americans’ healthcare, while forcing taxpayers to fund gender experimentation surgeries and illegal aliens’ care. The one-size-fits all healthcare solution would strip rural hospitals of the private insurance reimbursements that help keep their doors open, threatening essential services, jobs, and timely access to care in communities that can least afford to lose them.
In the piece, Rep. Hageman writes, “The Democratic Socialists of America organization’s policies will close rural hospitals and force Americans to bankroll gender experimentation surgeries on children. Their proposal to nationalize healthcare under the so-called ‘Medicare for All’ proposal is just the beginning of a dangerous path down a dystopian future under their socialist agenda.”
She continues, “The White House Council of Economic Advisers recently released a report, ‘The Real Cost of Socialism in America,’ outlining the consequences of the Democratic Socialists of America agenda. Single-payer healthcare accounts for $47.4 trillion of the roughly $49 trillion their plan would add to the deficit over the next decade. Of the eight socialist policies examined, the net fiscal burden would cost $355,000 per American household. The largest comes from the Medicare for All proposal.”
Rep. Hageman concludes, “Socialists promise free healthcare, but Wyoming would pay for it twice, first in taxes and then in time spent waiting. The choice for Wyoming families should be clear: protect healthcare freedom rather than surrender control of your healthcare decisions to the Democratic Socialists of America.”
