Rep. Sheri Biggs: “Democrats’ Open-Border Agenda Has a $613 Billion Price Tag”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a new op-ed for the Washington Times, Republican Study Committee Member Sheri Biggs (SC-03) warns that the Democrats’ open-border agenda would saddle American taxpayers with hundreds of billions of dollars in new costs.

For four years, the Biden-Harris administration’s pro-illegal alien policies wreaked havoc on communities across the nation. Since day one, the Trump administration and Congressional Republicans have worked to reverse course, achieving the most secure border America has ever seen. Without any Democrat support, they passed the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which funds critical border security upgrades, and the Secure America Act, which ensures Democrats can never hold border security funding hostage again, as they did during the two longest government shutdowns in American history.

Rep. Biggs warns that Socialists, who have overtaken the modern day Democrat Party, want open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens at the expense of Americans’ safety and wallets. 

In the piece, Rep. Biggs writes, “Another migrant caravan is on the move. More than 600 people from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador, and Haiti began marching through Mexico with their sights set on our southern border. Under the Biden administration, a scene like that would have meant another wave of releases into American communities. Today, the message from the Trump Administration is simple: If you attempt to cross our border illegally, you will be arrested and sent home. That approach could change dramatically if Democrats regain power.”

She continues, “There are few, if any, ‘moderate’ Democrats left because most of the energy and money comes from the socialist wing of their party. Make no mistake; though they may not call themselves socialists, the establishment moderates who remain are entirely beholden to the momentum of their radical allies.”

Rep. Biggs concludes, “The DSA’s amnesty and open-border policies would reverse $227 to $287 billion in projected fiscal gains from President Trump’s immigration enforcement actions. Ending deportations and detention by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and eliminating funding to increase enforcement would cost Americans between $79 and $139 billion over ten years...If Democrats have their way, our borders will be flooded, our communities overwhelmed, and the American people will be left footing the bill for their cheap-labor replacements and the housing crisis to come. We saw the insanity of the leftists' open-border policies once before and are still paying for it. We can’t make the same mistake, or lives will be lost and our nation will be left bankrupt.”
