RSC Chairman Pfluger Discusses Preventing Another Democrat Shutdown, Condemning Socialism, and Advancing President Trump’s America First Agenda on Fox Business

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11) joined Fox Business “Mornings with Maria" to discuss Congressional Republicans success in averting another Democrat shutdown, codifying the Trump administration’s victories, and pushing back against the growing influence of Socialism within the Democrat Party.

This week, the House advanced the Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2027, a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the federal government through December 11 while Congress continues advancing conservative full-year appropriations bills. Chairman Pfluger explained why passing the CR was necessary to prevent what would have been the third Democrat-caused government shutdown this fiscal year.

Chairman Pfluger also highlighted how President Trump and Republicans are putting more money back into the pockets of hardworking Americans through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act. He warned that the rise of radical Left-wing Socialists threatens the economic prosperity and opportunities Republicans have fought to deliver. Yesterday, House Republicans also passed a resolution to condemn Socialism in all its forms, introduced by RSC Member Jeff Crank (CO-05).

Chairman Pfluger on averting another Democrat shutdown:
“Democrats shut down the government for 120 days over the past two years, so we know that they’re willing to do this again. And coming into the end of the fiscal year, at the end of September, there is no doubt in my mind that had we not acted at this point, we would have seen another shutdown…Republicans are here to govern. We’re here to keep the government open. I care about our military. I care about our law enforcement. I care about DHS, who suffered greatly for those 120 days. So, my vote was a yes [to pass the CR]. I want to see our government open.”

Chairman Pfluger on Democrats’ refusal to condemn Socialism:
“I think it just shows you that most Democrats believe in Socialism. They’re saying the quiet part out loud. They believe in price setting. They believe in the Mamdani-style of government. It doesn’t work. Our Founders didn’t envision that. We’re a Capitalistic society built on freedom.”

“That's just how far gone the Democratic Party seems to be. This idea that you won't stand up for your district, that you won't represent in a representative form of government or republic, that you wouldn't stand up for the issues in your district, is ludicrous. So, obviously…I can speak to the bigger issue, which is that the radical side of the Democrat Party has really hijacked their entire party and does not allow them to think freely or act in a way that pushes back against other things like men playing women's sports and things that are just common sense. So, it's very bothersome. This is an indicator of just how far gone they really are.”

Chairman Pfluger on Republicans creating new opportunities for hardworking Americans:
“97% of filers got some kind of tax relief from the Working Families Tax Cuts. 29 million people are going for No Tax on Overtime. You’ve got 9 million doing No Tax on Tips. 33 million seniors taking advantage of No Tax on Social Security. These are real, tangible benefits. Small business formation, dereg, the energy trade, the AI trade. All of that is looking positive because of President Trump and the Republican agenda. And you contrast that with the unaffordability of Socialism, folks. You simply cannot afford to have liberals and Socialists running Washington.”

“Let's go back to July 4th, 2025, when we passed that bill, and every single Democrat voted against tax cuts. Every single Democrat voted against the Trump accounts, which, by the way, thanks to Michael Dell and an incredibly generous donation, that money has started hitting the accounts of newborn babies in 2025 and 2026. This is generational wealth. So, the Democrats are going to have to answer for why they wanted to raise taxes and make it harder to achieve the American dream when you have Republicans who have done that hard work.”
