RSC Chairman Pfluger Pushes Back on Democrat-led War Powers Resolution, Warns Against Weak Iran Deal
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman August Pfluger appeared on Fox News' Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy to discuss the ongoing conflict with Iran and the stakes of getting a deal right. Chairman Pfluger, a combat veteran and former fighter pilot, was unequivocal: the Iranian regime has spent 47 years lying, deceiving, and terrorizing, killing more than 1,000 Americans in the process, and cannot be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.
Chairman Pfluger also pushed back on House Democrats' War Powers Resolution, calling it a reflection of the left's pattern of retreating in weakness at exactly the moment America needs to project strength. He further addressed the U.S.-Israel alliance, Saudi Arabia's nuclear ambitions, and the Iranian regime's decades-long campaign of bloodshed against Americans.
Highlights of the conversation can be found below. The full interview can be found HERE.
On the state of the conflict and President Trump's path forward:
"The Iranians have lied, deceived, and terrorized for 47-plus years, and as you get nearer to the conclusion, or to a deal, or to a negotiation, of course they are going to continue to lob missiles. We can’t go down the path of the Democrats’ playbook, which is to withdraw in shame with weakness."
On the War Powers Resolution:
"It's no surprise that Democrats wanted to put this War Powers Resolution on the floor, because that is their playbook. Their playbook is to show weakness instead of the strength that we need."
On why Iran cannot be allowed to go nuclear:
"You can't have a terror regime, the largest state sponsor of terror, acquire a nuclear capability and basically hold hostage not just the entire Middle East, but the world…The Iranian regime has killed over 1,000 Americans in that 47-year period, and they have the desire and the intent to do much more than just that."
