RSC Leaders Blast Number Two Democrat for Admitting American Families are Second-Class Bargaining Chips

October 22, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Republican Study Committee leadership today slammed House Democrat Whip Katherine Clark after she openly admitted Democrats are using struggling American families as political "leverage" during the government shutdown. As federal workers face missed paychecks, essential services grind to a halt, and families across the country struggle to make ends meet, Clark brazenly characterized their pain as a negotiating tool for the Left.

"Democratic Whip Clark’s comments are a shocking admission of the Democrats’ misplaced priorities. To admit that families will suffer, yet call it a source of ‘leverage,’ is disgraceful. House Republicans are fighting to reopen the government and protect the American people, while Democrats seem more interested in scoring political points than solving problems,” said RSC Vice Chair Ben Cline (VA-06).

“It’s shameful that members of House Democrat leadership like Katherine Clark are using American families’ suffering as leverage for policy disagreements. It’s even more embarrassing that she would say that out loud. If Democrats don’t condemn these ridiculous comments immediately, it will be clear this is their official party position. The left needs to end the political games and start putting our constituents above their political prospects,” said RSC Messaging Task Force Chair Mark Alford (MO-04).

DEMOCRAT SHUTDOWN BY THE NUMBERS:

  • 22 Days
  • 11 Votes Failed to Reopen the Government
  • 750,000 Furloughed Federal Employees
  • Over $45 Billion in Lost U.S. GDP
  • $8.8 Billion Cost to Taxpayers

Reminder: THIS is what Senate Democrats are holding the American people as leverage for: a $1.5 TRILLION radical wishlist.
