RSC Leadership Gives Stamp of Endorsement to Rep. Finstad's Bill Package to Crack Down on Fraud

January 28, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C.  The Republican Study Committee's (RSC) Steering Committee endorsed two bills from Rep. Brad Finstad (MN-01) to crack down on rampant welfare fraud in Democrat-run states like Minnesota. As first reported in the Washington Reporter, the endorsement comes as the RSC unveiled its framework for a second reconciliation bill that tackles fraud in taxpayer-funded programs.

Rep. Finstad’s first bill, the Fraud Accountability and Recovery Act, would direct the President to temporarily freeze foreign assistance to any country that refuses to assist the United States in identifying and returning taxpayer dollars illegally sent to foreign nationals. The second bill, the SNAP Data Transparency and Oversight Act, would require states to provide beneficiary-level SNAP data to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in order to provide the federal government with the information necessary to detect and prosecute welfare fraud.

The RSC's endorsement puts real teeth behind anti-fraud protections in the wake of the massive fraud scheme uncovered under Governor Tim Walz's watch, where millions in taxpayer dollars were stolen and sent overseas.
