RSC Members Denounce Socialism in All Forms, Blast Democrats for Bringing Dangerous Ideology Into the Mainstream

September 1, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the House of Representatives passed H. Res. 1490, a resolution to condemn socialism in all its forms, introduced by Republican Study Committee (RSC) Member Jeff Crank (CO-05).

Socialism has spent decades delegated to the political fringes, but this vote exposes how far today's Democrat Party has let it spread into the mainstream. 192 Democrats refused to denounce a radical ideology with a record of economic collapse, political repression, the destruction of individual liberties, and the killing of over 100 million people worldwide. Republicans remain committed to defending the Constitution and the founding principles that have made America the freest and most prosperous nation in the world.

Here’s what Members of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) had to say about Democrats bowing a knee to their radical base:

“It is imperative as Members of Congress that we recommit ourselves to the Constitution and stand firm against this insidious push for socialism. 192 Democrats voted against my resolution to condemn socialism in all its forms. 10-15 years ago, a resolution like this would've passed the House unanimously. The Democratic Socialists of America are a threat to the American values that make our nation great. This evening's vote showed who stands for freedom, and others who stand with socialism,” said Rep. Jeff Crank (CO-05).

“Socialism has failed everywhere it's been tried without exception. It's a dangerous ideology that creates misery for the very people it claims to help. In America, we believe in hard work, personal responsibility, and limited government. As socialists continue their takeover of the Democrat Party, Republicans cannot afford to sit back and watch it happen in silence. This is about protecting the country our children will inherit. Today's vote puts the Left on the record and removes any doubt about where my colleagues on the other side of the aisle stand. They are choosing their radical agenda over the founding principles that built this nation,” said RSC Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11).

“Socialism is fundamentally incompatible with American values, culture, and our system of government. The far Left’s socialist impulses threaten to derail the unprecedented prosperity of our 250-year-old country. Hardworking Americans believe in freedom and the equality of opportunity. We will never succumb to ideologies behind history’s worst episodes of destruction and despair,” said Rep. Harriet Hageman (WY-AL).

“Socialism promises equality, but history has shown us what that really means: everyone sharing in the poverty. I believe in an America where government does not dictate economic outcomes, but where every person has the freedom and opportunity to work hard, succeed, and share in the wealth and prosperity our free-enterprise system can create. That is why I will continue to stand firmly against socialism and defend the principles that have made America the greatest and most prosperous nation in the world,”said Rep. Robert Aderholt (AL-04).

“Socialism has no place in America. It is driven by envy and resentment and its concept of society, as Pope Pius XI said, is ‘utterly foreign to Christian truth.’ That’s why I’m proud to support this resolution calling out the radical Left for making this evil ideology mainstream in the Democratic Party. America is a Christian nation and we must never accept socialism,” said Rep. Riley Moore (WV-02).

“Socialism runs against the very principles our country was founded on, but the socialist wing of the Democrat Party is gaining steam. We have to defeat this ideology before it takes hold. The irony is that these socialists have benefited from the very system they now want to tear down and now they want to pull up the ladder of opportunity behind them, take more of your hard-earned money, gut the private sector, and leave the American people with permanent economic malaise,” said Rep. Addison McDowell (NC-06).

“Socialism has no place in the American experiment. Our Nation was built on individual liberty, private property, free enterprise, and the God-given rights of every American. History has shown us time and again that socialism leads to government control, diminished freedom, and economic failure. I am proud to support H. Res. 1490 and pleased to see Congress send a clear message that we will not allow the failed ideology of socialism to take root in America. We must continue standing up for freedom, opportunity, and the American way of life,” said Rep. Jack Bergman (MI-01).

“Socialism has failed everywhere it has been tried, leaving behind less freedom, less prosperity, and more government control. Today, I proudly voted to condemn socialism and reaffirm the principles that made America the greatest country in the world: individual liberty, free enterprise, and equal opportunity. These principles are worth defending, and I will never apologize for standing up for them,” said Rep. William Timmons (SC-04).

“Socialism, which is Communism-lite, destroys families and livelihoods. It steals from the people, leaving them to live in misery while those who run the regime live as kings. That’s the reality. It’s not about equality. It’s about consolidating power for a select few. It’s up to us to ensure that the ideology that destroyed Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and other living hells never prevails here. House Republicans will continue to protect freedom, prosperity, and the American way of life,” said Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11).

“As an Army Ranger, I was stationed in Germany during the fall of the Berlin Wall, and I met people experiencing freedom for the first time after decades of scarcity, total government control, and corruption. That experience is why it is so troubling to watch Democrats embrace the same socialist ideas today. Freedom surrendered is rarely reclaimed, and we should remember that before giving government more control over our economy and our lives,” said Rep. Warren Davidson (OH-08).

“Democrats are surrendering their party to their radical leftist base and are attempting to normalize their insane agenda. I’m proud to support Congressman Crank’s resolution condemning socialism in all its forms. Let me be clear: socialism has no place in our country. We must reject the policies of the DSA that seek to dismantle the system our Founding Fathers established and defend the freedoms we all enjoy today,” said Rep. Troy Nehls (TX-22).

“Today, I voted to condemn socialism in all its forms because standing for freedom, free enterprise, and the values that make America exceptional should be common sense. Every Member of Congress was given a simple choice, yet 192 Democrats refused to condemn socialism. I will always stand for the freedoms and principles that have made our country great,” said Rep. Stephanie Bice (OK-05).

“Socialism never has and never will work. The anti-American ideas of the socialist movement are fundamentally opposed to the principles our founders established. During my time in Congress, I will always stand firm against the spread and influence of radical socialist and communist ideology,” said Rep. Sheri Biggs (SC-03).

“The radical Left can rebrand socialism all they want, but the deal is always the same: you give up more of your paycheck and more of your freedom while government takes more control. No thanks. America became the greatest country on Earth because we believe in freedom and opportunity, not government running our lives. Socialism has no place in America,” said Rep. James Gallagher (CA-01).

“Over the past few years, Michigan and the United States as a whole have seen a concerning rise in support for the destructive policies of socialism and leaders who seek to replace freedom with government control. From defunding the police to allowing noncitizens to vote in U.S. elections and seizing ownership of private corporations, the dangerous policies being pushed by the Democratic Socialists of America seek to undermine the very principles that have carried our nation through 250 years of freedom, ingenuity, and opportunity. America will not survive another 250 years by turning to extreme ideologies that have destroyed every society in history that they touched. We must reject these attempts and preserve the rights and freedoms of hardworking Michigan families,” said Rep. Tim Walberg (MI-05).

“I was proud to cosponsor and vote for Resolution 1490, condemning socialism. I swore an oath to defend the Constitution, and that’s exactly what Republicans are doing. Socialism is antithetical to republican government and to freedom. Everywhere socialism has been tried, it has led to tyranny, deprivation, and economic collapse. Because of our free-market system, the United States is the freest and most prosperous country ever to exist. Socialism would undermine that freedom and prosperity. I love this country and I don’t want to see it destroyed by this evil ideology. Socialism has no place in the United States of America,” said Rep. Matt Van Epps (TN-07).

“There is no American dream under socialism. With the enemy already inside our gates, we must reject this failed ideology wherever it exists and defend the freedoms and values that built this nation,” said Rep. Lance Gooden (TX-05).

“Socialism is a corrosive ideology spreading through the Democrat Party that has no place in a nation that has served as the world’s beacon for freedom and opportunity over the last 250 years. Today, I proudly voted to condemn socialism and send a loud and clear message that the freedoms Americans fought and died to protect must always be the guiding principle of our republic. An ideology that diminishes individual rights and empowers government control will destroy America as we know it. Sadly, this is no longer a belief system confined to the history books, and we must meet the moment and confront this cancer with the seriousness it deserves. I will always stand on this side of individual liberty and Constitutional freedom,” said Rep. Nick Langworthy (NY-23).

“America has achieved its greatest success by adhering to the principles of limited government. Socialism makes promises yet always ends with the government taking more. The American Dream is built on the foundation of personal ownership. Our great nation will not survive another 250 years if it adopts the very ideologies that have ruined every society touched by socialism and communism,” said Rep. Mike Kennedy (UT-03).
