RSC Takes an Axe to UN's Global Carbon Tax Dreams with UNtaxed Act
RSC Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11), RSC House Energy Action Team (HEAT) Chairman Troy Balderson (OH-12), and HEAT Vice Chairman Randy Weber (TX-14) will soon introduce the UNtaxed Act following President Trump's decisive action that forced the International Maritime Organization to postpone its vote on a "net-zero framework"—a de facto carbon tax that would have spiked shipping costs by 10% or more.
The bill strikes at the heart of UN overreach by requiring Senate approval before the UN can tax Americans, cutting off all funding to UN bodies pushing carbon taxes, and banning federal enforcement of global tax schemes.
The RSC leaders made clear their intent to fight this threat at every turn:
"The International Maritime Organization buckled under pressure from President Trump and Republicans who unapologetically stood up for American interests. However, this fight isn't over," said RSC Chairman August Pfluger. "This legislation would kill their global carbon tax scheme permanently by depriving all US funding to any UN agency that attempts to impose a tax on the American people and ensuring Congress has a say in all taxes, fees, and penalties on American citizens or companies. America is the largest contributor to the UN, and we should not bankroll an organization that seeks to tax our people and undermine our economy. Unelected international bureaucrats will not dictate to the American people."
"I'm grateful to President Trump and Secretaries Rubio, Wright, and Duffy for standing up to the United Nations and forcing the International Maritime Organization to back down. The threat of a global carbon tax that punishes American workers, consumers, and energy producers is still very real," said HEAT Chair Troy Balderson. "That's why I'm proud to support this bill to ensure no international body can impose harmful, foreign taxes on the American people."
"Unelected global bureaucrats at the U.N. are trying to build another slush fund and they expect Americans to pay for it. A global carbon tax wasn't on the ballot in November 2024, and the American people sure didn't vote for a ten percent hike in costs," said HEAT Vice-Chair Randy Weber. "The UNtaxed Act puts a stop to this back-door global tax scheme once and for all."
