Secretary Turner Addresses RSC: "HUD is Getting Back to the Basics, Helping Americans Who Need It Most"

February 16, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Republican Study Committee (RSC) hosted Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Scott Turner for a members-only meeting on the Trump administration's efforts to overhaul federal housing policy, and Turner arrived with a new playbook.

Secretary Turner emphasized that the Trump administration is returning HUD to its core mission of eradicating homelessness and giving struggling Americans a hand up, not a hand out. He stressed that HUD's programs should be designed to help individuals and families transition into stable housing and employment, equipping them with the tools and support needed to achieve lasting independence.

Turner also briefed RSC members on HUD's aggressive effort to root out fraud, waste, and abuse that exploded under the Biden administration. Increased oversight has already identified millions in improper payments and fraudulent activity, money that can now be redirected to Americans who truly need housing assistance. This aggressive approach to program integrity reflects the administration's commitment to being good stewards of taxpayer resources.

Following the conclusion of the meeting, HUD Secretary Turner said:

“Over the past year we have taken inventory at HUD, and the agency needs major reform. The Trump Administration has a mandate from the American people to rid HUD of its woke agenda, end DEI, protect women, and root out wasteful spending. It is refreshing to meet with Members of Congress who have the President’s back and believe in the work we are doing at HUD. We have returned to the Department’s core mission: helping Americans get back on their feet and achieve homeownership.”
