Sowing Tax Cuts, Reaping Results: Republicans Deliver for American Farmers
WASHINGTON, D.C. — For 250 years, America’s farmers have kept families healthy, strengthened our nation, and stewarded God’s glorious creation. Today, we honor the hardworking men and women who rise before dawn each day to make sure we have American-grown food on our tables.
President Trump and Republicans have worked hand in hand to support American farmers. The Working Families Tax Cuts Act delivered major wins for family farms and agricultural producers. It modernized the farm safety net, helping producers have more certainty when planning for their business and farm operations, and raised the Death Tax exemption to $15 million, protecting multi-generational farms from being dismantled and ensuring that farmland stays in the hands of American families.
The law also strengthens the small business deduction, allowing family farms to deduct up to 20 percent of their qualified business income. That relief gives farmers more room to invest in equipment, hire workers, and grow their operations. With immediate expensing and 100 percent bonus depreciation, farmers can fully deduct the cost of new equipment, machinery and infrastructure, helping lower costs and keeping American agriculture competitive.
Here’s what Members of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) had to say about America’s hardworking farmers:
“Iowa farmers are in the middle of harvest right now, bringing in this year's crop with diesel and fertilizer costs still too high and markets still too uncertain. Temporary relief is not enough to carry a family farm through seasons like this one. That's why we strengthened the farm safety net, and it's why I fought to get a Farm Bill and year-round E15 through the House. I'm pushing to get both to the President's desk before the end of the year to deliver long-term certainty for Iowa farmers,” said RSC National Security Task Force Chair Zach Nunn (IA-03).
“North Dakota farmers are second to none. Their hard work, resilience, and dedication help feed and fuel our country, strengthen our rural communities, and power our economy. I’m proud we delivered higher reference prices and strengthened crop insurance to give producers more certainty. I’ll keep working to put the Farm Bill and permanent year-round E15 across the finish line. On National Farmers Day, we recognize everything our farmers do and the sacrifices they make to put food on tables across America,” said Rep. Julie Fedorchak (ND-AL).
“As a fourth-generation rancher, I understand agriculture's importance to our nation. From our country's fledgling days, agriculture was the glue that held our society together, with George Washington once stating that ‘agriculture is the most healthy, the most useful, and the most noble employment of man.’ On this National Farmers Day, we remember that agriculture is about more than raising livestock, planting, and harvesting; it is a way of life. May the Lord bless all those who ‘rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle’ (Gen. 1:26),” said Rep. Josh Brecheen (OK-02).
“Farmers are the backbone of our economy and American way of life. America carries a proud history of hardworking and resilient farmers. The pioneers and Pilgrims who moved to the New World were largely farmers, as were many of our Founding Fathers. Today, our agriculture industry is helping feed and fuel the world. A strong agricultural sector means a secure food supply, increased energy independence, and thriving rural economies. I'm proud to work every day to support American farmers and strengthen rural communities across our country,” said Rep. Jim Baird (IN-04).
“All day, every day, farmers and producers work to feed our families, supply essential materials for our industries, and strengthen our economy. However, rising input costs and low returns have made their work even more challenging. Yet, our farmers and producers continue to show resilience, supporting rural communities and households with the food and fiber we rely on. This National Farmers Day, I want to express my appreciation for the work they do and affirm my commitment to ensuring they have the resources they need to keep their operations strong for generations to come,” said Rep. Rick Crawford (AR-01).
“As a proud fourth-generation corn and soybean farmer, raising the fifth generation to continue our family farm, it’s an honor to be one of the very few active farmers in Congress representing my fellow producers. Through my role on the House Committee on Agriculture and strong support of the Working Families Tax Cuts, which delivered the largest investment in the farm safety net since the 2002 Farm Bill, I’ve delivered commonsense, meaningful legislation that empowers the men and women who feed and fuel the world. I’ll continue working with my colleagues in Washington and listening to farmers in Minnesota’s First District to deliver these wins time and time again,” said Rep. Brad Finstad (MN-01).
“On National Farmers Day, we honor the men and women whose hard work keeps our country moving. Across Western Minnesota, we know farming is more than just a job, it's a way of life. Our farmers get up early, persevere through tough times, and continue a tradition that has supported generations. Today and every day, we are thankful for everyone who works to keep our farms, families, and rural communities strong,” said Rep. Michelle Fischbach (MN-07).
“The American farmer is the backbone of this great country! Their hard work, dedication, and love of the land feed our families and the world. On National Farmers Day, I’m proud to honor their incredible contributions and pay tribute to the Hoosier farming community in Southern Indiana who work tirelessly for the good of our grateful nation. May God Bless America’s farmers and their families,” said Rep. Mark Messmer (IN-08).
“On National Farmers Day, we recognize the hardworking Buckeye farmers who feed our families, strengthen our communities, and help power our nation’s economy. Ohio farmers work tirelessly through long days and unpredictable seasons to put food on our tables and secure our nation’s food supply chain. And with 96 percent of farms in OH-02 being family farms, the agriculture industry hits close to home for Buckeye families. In Congress, I will continue advocating for the needs of Ohio’s farmers, ranchers, and producers so they have the tools and resources they need to thrive for generations to come!” said Rep. Dave Taylor (OH-02).
“As our farmers work through harvest season, we commend their efforts to feed, fuel, and clothe our country. On National Farmers Day, we proudly celebrate our producers for their work, day in and day out, on behalf of their fellow Americans. I ask everyone to join me in thanking a farmer today,” said Rep. Austin Scott (GA-08).
“Farmers don’t just grow the food that ends up on our tables. They support entire rural communities and help keep America strong. As a farmer myself, I know how hard it is to keep an operation going when input costs keep climbing and government regulations make the job more expensive. On National Farmers Day, I’m proud to stand with the men and women who feed this country, and I’ll keep fighting to make sure Washington works for our farmers, not against them,” said Rep. James Gallagher (CA-01).
“America’s farmers are the backbone of our great nation. They are the driving force of our economy in Mississippi and the United States. It is a top priority in Congress to do everything in our power to support these men and women, ensuring a sustainable future with commonsense policies. Food security is national security,” said Rep. Trent Kelly (MS-01).
“America’s farmers are the backbone of our nation. They rise before the sun, work long hours, and dedicate their lives to putting food on our tables, fueling our economy, and sustaining the rural communities at the heart of our country. Here in North Carolina, agriculture is one of our state’s most important industries and a way of life passed down through generations. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the hardworking men and women who keep it strong. As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I am proud of the work we have done alongside President Trump and his Administration to deliver for farm country. The Working Families Tax Cuts made the largest investment in American agriculture in decades, restored integrity to SNAP, and protected millions of family farms from the death tax. The House-passed Farm Bill builds on that progress and includes protections for North Carolina pork producers against California’s disastrous Proposition 12. On National Farmers Day and every day, House Republicans remain committed to giving our farmers the certainty, resources, and support they need to succeed,” said Rep. Mark Harris (NC-08).
“Happy National Farmers Day to America’s agricultural producers! Thank you for the work you do year-round to produce the food, fuel, and fiber for our Nation. As one of the few farmers in Congress, I am proud to serve as a voice for these hardworking men and women while also supporting the next generation of American farmers,” said Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA-04).
“The Central Valley is the agricultural heart of America. We grow nearly a quarter of the food on American tables and feed families from coast to coast. Our farmers are some of the hardest working people in the world, and they deserve a government that fights for them. From securing $540 million for California water infrastructure to delivering the largest tax cut in American history, House Republicans have stood with our farmers. On National Farmers Day, I am proud to represent the men and women who feed this nation,” said Rep. Vince Fong (CA-20).
