Statement from RSC Chairman Pfluger on the Democrats Demands for the DHS Funding Bill

February 5, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman August Pfluger released the following statement after Democrats laid out their extreme list of open border policy demands to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS):

"For the third time in less than five months, the Democrats are threatening to shut the Department of Homeland Security down over a list of radical, unprecedented demands that would endanger agents and impose unnecessary hurdles to their ability to deport the millions of illegal aliens who entered this country under President Joe Biden’s watch. Make no mistake: this is not simply a funding battle. This is a calculated attempt to achieve the Democrat Party’s longstanding aim of defunding ICE and subjecting the country to uncontrolled illegal immigration. House Republicans must stand firm in demanding an end to dangerous sanctuary policies that have created an environment of chaos. Any future DHS funding bill must require sanctuary jurisdictions to honor ICE detainer requests and enable ICE officers and Border Patrol Agents to apprehend illegal aliens when they are booked in local jails."
