A Tale of Two Parties: One Defends the Constitution, the Other Defends Socialism

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On September 17, 1787, the Founding Fathers signed the United States Constitution, formally establishing the supreme law of the land and a framework of government that has guided our nation for over 200 years. Today, Republicans remain committed to defending the Constitution and the founding principles that define our way of life.

As RSC Members honor the Constitution and the enduring values that have made America the most prosperous nation in the world, they are also confronting the growing threat of Socialism. Once on the political fringes, Socialism has become the norm of today's Democrat Party. 192 Democrats voted against RSC Member Jeff Crank’s (CO-05) bill: H. Res. 1490, a resolution to condemn Socialism in all its forms. They refused to denounce a radical ideology with a record of economic collapse, political repression, the destruction of individual liberties, and the killing of over 100 million people worldwide. Now more than ever, it is vital to remember and honor the core of American democracy that has upheld our way of life for over two centuries. 

Here’s what Members of the Republican Study Committee (RSC) had to say about protecting the Constitution from the Left’s radical agenda:

“239 years ago, our Founders gave us a Constitution built on liberty, limited government, and the belief that power belongs to We the People. Today, Democrats can't even bring themselves to reject an ideology that has killed more than 100 million people and failed everywhere it's ever been tried. That tells you everything about where their side stands. Republicans will always defend the Constitution and the freedoms it protects, and we will never stop fighting an ideology that threatens both,” said RSC Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11).

“America has led the world for 250 years in life-changing innovation. The creation of a modern constitutional republic, however, has been our greatest invention. There is work ahead for Congress to reclaim the legislative branch’s Article I authority, but I am confident that our founders created strong institutions capable of keeping the republic they delivered,” said RSC’s Article One Task Force Chair Harriet Hageman (WY-AL).

“Every Constitution Day, I think about the pocket Constitution my father gave me—the same one I carried with me onto the House floor when I was sworn in. It reminds me that our Constitution isn’t just a document; it’s our promise that government serves the people, not the other way around. That’s a principle worth protecting,” said RSC’s Messaging Task Force Chair Mark Alford (MO-04).

“239 years ago, our Founders signed the Constitution to limit the power of the very government they were creating. Those limits matter more today than ever, as Socialists in America push for a government with no boundaries on what it can control in your life. I've said it since the day I got to Congress, and it's true now more than ever: we must keep our government small enough to fit within the Constitution,” said Rep. Warren Davidson (OH-08).  

“Today, we celebrate 239 years of the U.S. Constitution. Authored by our Founding Fathers and adopted by We the People, our Constitution stands as a lasting framework for protecting the inalienable rights given to us by God,” said Rep. Russ Fulcher (ID-01). 

“Happy Constitution Day to those who celebrate individual liberty, limited government, separation of powers, judicial restraint, and government of, for, and by the people. With the rise of Socialism and Communism across America, this day reminds us that we must fight every day to defend our fundamental American Values,” said Rep. Erin Houchin (IN-09).

“239 years ago, our Founding Fathers created a framework for a federal government and placed strict limits on its power in order to protect the fundamental freedoms of individuals. The Framers understood our inalienable rights come from God and not government. Constitution Day reminds us of what makes America extraordinary and the legacy we must cherish and protect,” said Rep. Michael Cloud (TX-27). 

“The United States Constitution stands as a testament to the wisdom and foresight of the founders of our nation. The real genius is in the balance of powers, the legislative, the executive, and the judiciary. It has withstood the test of 239 years and will continue to do so in the future,” said Rep. Austin Scott (GA-08).
