“We're Going to Keep the Pressure Up:” Rep. Van Drew Talks Deadline for NJ Gov. Sherrill on Fox Business “Mornings with Maria”

August 21, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Republican Study Committee Member Jeff Van Drew (NJ-02) joined Fox Business “Mornings with Maria” to discuss RSC’s letter to New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill after the state revealed they had registered 6,600 noncitizens to vote, enabling roughly 400 of those individuals to cast ballots in American elections.

With the deadline for Gov. Sherill to respond set for today, Rep. Van Drew said Congress could pursue potential action if she ignores the demands for answers, which would help ensure a failure at this scale never happens again. He also emphasized the need for the SAVE America Act, a bill that has passed the House to strengthen election integrity. He calls on the Senate to pass the legislation as more states continue to confront concerns involving voter fraud, noncitizen voter registration, and other election safeguard breakdowns.

Rep. Van Drew also discussed how President Trump and Republicans helped put more money back in the pockets of hardworking Americans through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act and what progress is at stake if the radical Left-wing socialists become the mainstream policies of the Democrats.

Key highlights from the interview are below.

Van Drew on potential next steps if Gov. Sherrill misses the deadline:
“Well, we certainly hope to get a response. And if we don't, we're going to continue to pursue this. Working with the Republican Study Committee, I headed up this letter. Good to have 17 other thoughtful members on it with me to say, you know, what's the real story here? How did this happen? It's interesting to know that for years we've discussed that we thought something was wrong. We thought there were problems…And lo and behold, they had to admit it's true when the pressure was on. We're going to keep the pressure up. She doesn't answer by the end of business today. We're going to move forward. We're going to continue to work on it…We're not letting it go. We never want to see it happen again.”

Van Drew on the SAVE America Act:
“It's still got a realistic chance. I'm profoundly disappointed in the Senate… If you want to vote in an American election, you must be an American. And you show ID. And you've heard all the arguments we all have, and it's true. If you go into a liquor store, if you go into a federal building, if you buy a firearm, I can give you the list. It's as long as your arm. And essentially saying you need to have ID to do certain things in this world. That's not voter suppression. That is making sure we're being responsible and that Americans are voting in American elections.”

Van Drew on how Republicans have delivered for Americans:
“What socialists would do, their cure would make the situation worse. The cure they have is worse than the problem itself… We reduced taxes on tips, reduced taxes on overtime, reduce taxes on Social Security, reduce taxes on people buying new vehicles. I can go through the long list. We've done a lot of good work… The socialists would make life worse.”

Van Drew on how Republicans are cleaning up the mess from the last Democrat administration:
“There was a lot of wasteful spending. We're still paying for the past administration for all the, you know, the green energy boondoggles, all the money that was spent during COVID. Some of it shouldn't have been. Huge amount of waste. That's really what blew up this deficit more than ever…We’ve stopped that.”
