WHAT THEY ARE SAYING (2.0): Pass the Clean Goverment Funding Bill
WASHINGTON, D.C. – For nearly 6 weeks, Senate Democrats have held the government hostage and their ransom is a radical wish list. The list includes $1.5 trillion in new spending to restore taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens and resuming DEI projects in foreign countries.
As federal employees miss paychecks, servicemembers are pulled from critical missions, and hardworking families are struggling to make ends meet, Democrats have used their suffering for their own political gain. Americans from different political backgrounds are putting their country over party by voicing critical support to pass the clean CR in the U.S. Senate.
HERE'S WHAT THEY ARE SAYING:
Sean M. O’Brien, Teamsters General President:
“I represent 1.3 million working men and women in this country. At the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, we took a position weeks ago: pass a clean CR.”
Everett Kelley, President of the American Federation of Government Employees:
“It’s time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today. No half measures, and no gamesmanship.”
Tiffany Justice, Heritage Action Executive Vice President:
“Shutdown Schumer’s hypocrisy was on full display as he rejected the same deal he supported just months ago and blocked a clean CR… the American people gave President Trump a mandate to save our country from the washed up Washington Democrats intent on destroying it.”
Airlines for America:
“We are expecting a record holiday travel season; however, if the shutdown continues much longer, Americans will have to pack their patience and be prepared for more delays.”
United Airlines:
“A prolonged shutdown will lead to more delays and cancellations – and the American people, especially during the busy holiday season, deserve better.”
Delta Airlines:
“Delta Airlines implores Congress to immediately pass a clean continuing resolution to reopen the government so that our air traffic controllers, TSA and CBP officers charged with the safety and efficiency of our national airspace can collect the paychecks they deserve.”
Coalition of Airline Pilots Association:
“On behalf of the Coalition of Airline Pilots Associations (CAPA) and its 30,000 members, we call on Congress to end the government shutdown by passing a clean Continuing Resolution. We as pilots adhere to strict procedures promoting safety as our most important priority. We have seen the stress and tension this year on the National Airspace System due to short-staffed air traffic controllers. This shutdown only compounds the pressures they face as they now report to work without a paycheck. It’s time to recognize their contributions, along with our colleagues at TSA, who ensure we fly in the safest skies every day with the trust of the American flying public. Congress must support these men and women by ending this shutdown immediately.”
Allied Pilots Association President, First Officer Nick Silva:
“Congress should reconvene and work in a bipartisan manner to pass a clean Continuing Resolution to fund and reopen the government. We stand with our brothers and sisters in air traffic control and TSA who continue to show up to work every day without a paycheck. These men and women take their oath seriously to guarantee a safe National Airspace System so we the pilots can ensure the flying public reaches their destinations in a timely manner and without harm. As the shutdown stretches on and airports encounter potential delays, it only intensifies the pressure these aviation professionals confront in the face of not getting paid. It’s time we support these men and women and reopen the federal government.”
NetJets Association of Shared Aircraft Pilots President, Captain Pedro Leroux:
“How can we possibly expect our industry peers to be fully focused on their responsibilities – chief of which is keeping the flying public safe and secure – when many are likely wondering how long they are going to go without pay. And, more specifically, how do they continue to care for their families – to put food on the table? Our members rely on ATC, in particular, to provide critical direction and support during all phases of flight. Today is day 23 of the shutdown, and the strain this is placing on all stakeholders – federal employees, flight crews and the traveling public is taking a toll. It is indisputable that our system is less safe today than it was on Oct. 1 when the shutdown began.”
Southwest Airlines Pilots Association President, Captain Jody Reven:
“Considering the strain on our nation’s aviation system, SWAPA strongly urges Congress to pass a clean Continuing Resolution to fund the government. Our air traffic controllers and the broader air traffic system are already operating under immense pressure — a government shutdown only compounds that stress and threatens the efficiency of our skies as we see the impact of reduced controller availability at facilities across the country. Likewise, TSA professionals continue to show up every day to safeguard the traveling public, even without pay. These men and women deserve our full support and the certainty of a paycheck."
Business Roundtable:
“We urge Congress to swiftly pass a clean continuing resolution to reopen the federal government. Immediately reopening the government would avert further economic disruption and give Congress and the Administration time to negotiate a longer-term funding package and address other pressing issues.”
The Chamber of Commerce:
“The Chamber is again calling on Congress to immediately pass the continuing resolution to reopen and fund the government.”
Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR):
“Passing a clean CR that keeps the federal government functioning is the right thing to do. Instead of providing illegal aliens with Medicaid, Medicare, and Obamacare tax credits, Congressional Democrats should focus on American interests and protecting the livelihoods of federal workers who are not able to do their jobs because of their radical, anti-borders demands.”
National Taxpayers Union (NTU):
“Shutdowns never work out well for taxpayers. They drive down the trust that Americans have for the government, and display the inability of adults to act like adults.”
Concerned Women for America (CWA):
“Instead of voting on a clean continuing resolution to keep the government open for seven weeks, the Democrats are choosing to inflict pain on thousands of hardworking American families. They are holding the government hostage so they can extract another $1.5 trillion of taxpayer dollars for partisan Democrat policies that do not center on American families, like healthcare for illegal immigrants and extending taxpayer subsidies for gender mutilation procedures. Americans are the ones paying the price of this selfish, Democrat political game. The women I represent are not buying, and it needs to end now.”
Economic Policy Innovation Center (EPIC):
“Reminder: The House has already passed a clean CR. The Senate can - and should - advance the current spending levels to reopen the government and continue negotiations on full-year appropriations.”
American Exploration & Production Council (AXPC):
“America’s independent oil and natural gas producers work every day to deliver the energy that powers our economy, and a fully functioning federal government is critical to supporting domestic energy production. Government shutdowns threaten to stall the development of oil and gas resources on federal lands – delaying energy projects and hurting consumers who depend on affordable, reliable energy. AXPC urges Congress to pass the Continuing Resolution to keep the government open.”
Americans for Prosperity (AFP):
“The vast majority of Americans expect lawmakers to pass a budget and keep the government open and operating. Regardless of the issue or political Party, no one wins when the government shuts down. We strongly urge Democrats to listen to their own voters and the American people to stop playing politics with government funding and support this clean continuing resolution."
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America:
“Democrats are shutting down the government to try to expand forced taxpayer funding of abortion on demand in Obamacare subsidies. Thank you to President Donald Trump,Senate Majority Leader John Thune, and House Speaker Mike Johnson for standing strong for taxpayers & the unborn.”
American First Policy Institute’s (AFPI) Interim President and CEO Greg Sindelar:
“Americans deserve a government that works without shutting down, but they also deserve fiscal responsibility—after all, it's their money. We support a clean CR to fund essential government functions while preventing reckless spending that further burdens taxpayers.”
Immigration Accountability Project (IAP):
“The harm government shutdowns cause Americans is bipartisan. Reopening the government should be bipartisan, too. Americans voted last November to stop the free handouts to illegal aliens, and Republicans listened. It’s time for Democrats to listen, too, and pass the clean CR to reopen the government.”
Independent Women's Forum (IWF):
“Our nation is buckling under too much federal debt and runaway deficit spending. So why are Democrats shutting down the government to shovel more taxpayer money at wasteful and unpopular government giveaways like National Public Radio? It’s absurd. Spending is up more than 50 percent from just 6 years ago. We need to cut spending, not increase it. That process starts by passing a clean CR so Congress can get back to actual budget debates in front of the American people. The president and Congress should reject Democrats’ attempts to hold the federal government ransom and force them to waste Americans’ money.”
Bull Moose Project:
“Government is supposed to work for the American people. But right now it can't, because Democrats won't let it. Instead of playing political games, they should pass a clean, continuing resolution – and get people back to work.”
Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE):
“If the U.S. Government shuts down at midnight, it will happen because 212 House Democrats and 46 Senate Democrats voted against keeping it open. As Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said during the Biden presidency, "If the government shuts down, it will be average Americans who suffer most . . ." Schumer needs to put the interests of the American people before his partisan political interests. Vote for a clean funding bill to keep the government open!”
Matt Haller, CEO of the International Franchise Association (IFA):
“The shutdown is now in its second day and is harming new and existing franchise business owners from accessing critical financing from SBA programs like 7a & 504. A clean CR is the quickest way to reopen programs critical to America’s 800,000 small business franchise owners.”
Conservatives for Property Rights:
"The fact is that the House-passed clean CR is the same one Democrats voted for 6 months ago and have done so repeatedly in recent years! Republicans in Congress and the White House have acted responsibly. The Democrats should do the same—pass the clean CR, then negotiate policies absent the hostage-taking drama."
ALEC Action:
"Holding the federal government hostage over $1.5 trillion in wasteful spending demands is a disservice to every American. With bipartisan majorities in both chambers ready to end the shutdown, it’s time for Senate holdouts to support a clean CR & reopen the government now."
Tarren Bragdon, CEO of the Foundation for Government Accountability:
“The clean CR before the Senate is nothing more than a date change on the same bipartisan spending plan Republicans and Democrats agreed to back in March. This is not the end of democracy or an ‘authoritarian power grab’—it’s a generous status quo agreement. Now, instead of accepting that offer and keeping the government open, Democrats are forcing a shutdown while demanding $1.5 trillion in new spending on fringe leftist priorities that the American people already rejected.”
