WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: Democrats’ $47 Trillion Prescription Comes with Serious Side Effects
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Democrats destroyed America’s healthcare system with the introduction of Obamacare, causing rising premiums, fewer healthcare options, and costly provisions that bail out big insurance companies. Today, they are doubling down on those failed efforts with key players in the Democrat Party advocating for Medicare for All. This plan is a single-payer healthcare system that would put Washington bureaucrats in charge of coverage and reimbursement decisions, force taxpayers to fund gender experimentation surgeries and illegal aliens’ healthcare, threaten rural hospitals, and create longer wait times. Medicare for All is estimated to cost $47 trillion over the next decade.
While Democrats push a costly government takeover of healthcare, Republicans are delivering solutions to drive prices down. Republicans delivered the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which included a historic $50 billion investment to modernize rural hospitals, expand the kind of care they provide, and strengthen the rural healthcare workforce. Every single Democrat voted against this historic investment into rural healthcare.
House Republicans also passed the Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act, which every single Democrat voted against. The bill would give small businesses more options to offer affordable health coverage, help employers better manage healthcare costs, require greater transparency from pharmacy benefit managers, and provide funding to help lower health insurance premiums.
Here’s what RSC Members have said about the Democrats’ costly plans to take away Americans’ healthcare freedom:
“House Republicans voted to lower healthcare costs for all Americans. Every House Democrat voted against it. After months of empty ‘affordability’ rhetoric and forcing the longest government shutdown in American history, Democrats once again rejected a valuable, common-sense solution to address the unaffordability they created with their own health insurance law – the Unaffordable Care Act…For too long, Democrats have forced hardworking American taxpayers to bail out big health insurance companies for hundreds of billions of dollars. Meanwhile, Americans are left paying for increasingly expensive care with fewer choices, lower quality, and worse health outcomes,” said Majority Leader Steve Scalise (LA-01).
“The difference couldn’t be more clear! Under the Left's policies, American families faced sky-high drug prices, rising healthcare costs, greedy insurance middlemen, confusing bills, and zero transparency. Under President Trump’s leadership, House Republicans [are] fighting back to change that and put patients first with lower medical costs for American families, greater transparency with clearer pricing and less red tape, and more money back in the pockets of hardworking Americans. I will never stop pushing for commonsense healthcare reform that cuts bureaucracy, holds middlemen accountable, and delivers real results for rural Missouri!” said Rep. Mark Alford (MO-04), RSC’s Messaging Task Force Chair.
“The Democrats’ one-size-fits-all approach to healthcare has been an historical failure – hiking costs up, driving quality down, and stripping Americans of choices. Under The [Working Families Tax Cuts Act], we are improving the availability of healthcare in America – including for those in rural communities. Increased access to HSAs and Health Reimbursement Arrangements will empower small businesses and help individuals to take control of their healthcare, better manage those expenses, and seek out insurance coverage that actually meets their needs,” said Rep. Jason Smith (MO-08), Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means.
“The Left wants mass amnesty to provide Medicaid, SNAP, and taxpayer-funded housing assistance to every single illegal alien in our country. Who pays for all of it? You. We must never allow it to happen,” said Rep. Mary Miller (IL-15).
“Democratic leadership in Washington wants to use the American people as pawns for their political games so they can fund free healthcare for illegal immigrants. This is not what Kansans voted for,” said Rep. Tracey Mann (KS-01).
“House Republicans are working to lower healthcare premiums for all Americans. The so-called Affordable Care Act promised lower costs, better quality, and more choice. But delivered higher premiums, fewer options, declining quality, and rampant fraud. Democrats broke our healthcare system. We’re fighting to fix it,” said Rep. Michael Rulli (OH-06).
