WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: It's Tax Day, and Americans are Winning Thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Republican Study Committee (RSC) members are marking Tax Day by celebrating the Working Families Tax Cuts, landmark legislation that extended the 2017 Trump Tax Cuts and prevented the largest tax hike in American history. Every Democrat in Congress voted against it, and had they won, American families, workers, and small business owners would be facing a massive tax increase today instead of relief.
The wins are concrete and they are law: an expanded Child Tax Credit putting more money back in the pockets of parents, a higher standard deduction shielding more of what families earn from Washington, and eliminated taxes on tips and overtime so the server keeping more of her gratuities and the nurse pulling extra shifts both take home what they worked for. Additionally, it enhanced small business deductions so small businesses can reinvest in their employees and communities.
Republicans delivered a resounding victory for the American people by passing the historic Working Families Tax Cuts, with the RSC leading the charge for conservative reforms throughout the budget reconciliation process.
Here’s what members of the RSC are saying on Tax Day:
"Republicans promised to cut taxes for working families and we delivered," said RSC Chairman August Pfluger (TX-11). "The Working Families Tax Cuts stopped the largest tax hike in history and put more money in the pockets of workers pulling double shifts, parents stretching every dollar, and small business owners betting on their communities. From Trump Accounts to tip exemptions, the RSC led the charge, got it to President Trump's desk, and Americans are winning because of it."
“House Republicans and President Trump have kept our promises to provide real results for American workers, small businesses, and family farms. From no tax on tips to 100 percent immediate deduction, the Working Families Tax Cuts have delivered historic tax results for American families. Virginians are seeing higher wages and more money back in their pockets,” said RSC Vice-Chair Ben Cline (VA-06).
“North Texas job creators have repeatedly told me how much they appreciate the Working Families Tax Cuts prioritizing their ability to grow, invest in their futures, and focus on private sector job expansion rather than the vast government spending we saw under four years of the Biden Administration,” said RSC Budget and Spending Task Force Chair Beth Van Duyne (TX-24). “Whether it is using the permanent 20 percent pass through deduction that ensures our small businesses have long term tax certainty to plan and save or full and immediate expensing for investments in equipment, technology, and machinery to expand their operations, small businesses in North Texas are growing thanks to the reforms we delivered in the Working Families Tax Cuts.”
“On Tax Day, Americans should feel relief, not frustration. And that’s exactly what House Republicans delivered with the Working Families Tax Cuts. From Main Street small businesses to family farms across Missouri, we’ve cut taxes, unleashed growth, and put more of your hard-earned money back where it belongs: in your pocket! That’s how we strengthen communities, fuel opportunity, and keep the American Dream alive and within reach,” said RSC Messaging Task Force Chair Mark Alford (MO-04).
“Tax Day just got better for Main Street,” said House Committee on Small Business Chairman Roger Williams (TX-25). “Under President Trump and Republican leadership, we delivered real relief for small businesses through the Working Families Tax Cuts. Bigger refunds, no tax on tips and overtime, and permanent tax relief mean hardworking Americans keep more of what they earn. President Trump’s America First agenda is putting workers first and strengthening the economy after years of Biden-era inflation.”
"Tax Day shouldn’t punish work. We fixed that when we passed the largest tax cut in American history last year with the Working Families Tax Cut. No tax on tips, overtime, or Social Security. Doubled the child tax credit. Immediate and permanent expensing and deductions for small businesses. Biggest tax cut in American history. America First means you keep more of your money—because it’s yours. Not Washington’s,” said RSC Emerging Technologies Task Force Chair Kat Cammack (FL-03).
“House Republicans have delivered historic relief to millions of Americans this tax season, with Wyoming taxpayers benefitting with an average savings of $5,478. Americans are keeping more of their hard-earned income while enjoying fewer barriers to grow their businesses, purchase homes, and prosper in retirement. The creation of Trump accounts are providing guaranteed long-term investments for the next generation thanks to this hallmark law. The Working Families Tax Cuts legislation showcases how Republican creativity is engineering real relief on Main Street while removing the shackles on American industries.,” said RSC Article One Task Force Chair Harriet Hageman (WY-AL).
“Iowans made it clear: tips shouldn’t be taxed like a salary, overtime shouldn’t be punished, and families deserve real relief so they can invest in their future. We listened and delivered the largest working-class tax cut in American history. This Tax Day, that means more of what you earn stays where it belongs: with American workers, not Washington,” said RSC National Security Task Force Chair Zach Nunn (IA-03).
“Through no tax on tips, overtime, and Social Security, and support for our small business owners and ranchers, the Working Families Tax Cuts is providing historic relief for hardworking Oklahomans. This is real tax reform for families across the state, ensuring they keep more of their paycheck in their pocket,” said Rep. Kevin Hern (OK-01).
“Through the Working Families Tax Cuts, House Republicans delivered win after win for working families. Provisions such as raising the Child Tax Credit, No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, and raising the death tax exemption amount are lowering the burden on families and supporting small businesses and hardworking farmers in Georgia,” said Rep. Buddy Carter (GA-01). "Republicans are governing with common-sense policies that are helping folks keep more of what they earn.”
“Hoosiers work hard for every dollar they earn and deserve to keep more of it. The Working Families Tax Cuts put money back where it belongs: the pockets of those who earned it. This legislation cut taxes for seniors on Social Security, made permanent the Small Business deduction, provided tax relief for family farmers, and ensured Indiana's farmers can immediately expense machinery so they can continue to feed and fuel America. I was proud to deliver this historic tax relief so that Main Street and our farmers in Indiana and across the nation can continue to thrive,” said Rep. Jim Baird (IN-04).
“On Tax Day, families across Upstate New York are seeing the real benefits of commonsense tax relief,” said Rep. Claudia Tenney (NY-24). “The Trump Tax Cuts delivered meaningful results by lowering tax burdens, expanding the Child Tax Credit, and eliminating taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security. These policies are putting more money back into the pockets of hardworking Americans, strengthening small businesses, and driving economic growth in communities like ours.”
"No Hoosier has ever told me that Washington should spend more and tax more. This Tax Day is different. Americans are seeing some of the biggest refunds ever, and the Working Families Tax Cuts made that happen. Lower rates, doubled standard deduction, no tax on tips or overtime. That's money back in hardworking Americans' pockets, and it's permanent,” said Rep. Rudy Yakym (IN-02).
“This Wednesday is Tax Day. House Republicans are ensuring that you have more money in your pocket. There are deductions for seniors and overtime workers, and no tax on tips. This is helping Americans keep more of their hard-earned money. I am grateful that we were able to make the Trump tax cuts from 2017 permanent. House Republicans will continue to work for the American people,” said Rep. Michael Guest (MS-03).
“The Working Families Tax Cuts delivers real financial relief for all Americans,” said Rep. Rob Wittman (VA-01). “Seniors can expect a new $6,000 deduction for individuals or $12,000 for couples. Parents will see the Child Tax Credit boosted to $2,200, alleviating childcare costs. Restaurant workers, taxi drivers, and service industry employees will take home more of their pay because the Working Families Tax Cuts eliminates taxes on tips and overtime. It also modernizes 529 education savings accounts—an effort I was proud to lead—so families can better prepare for a wider range of educational opportunities. This legislation provides meaningful tax relief, strengthens household finances, and supports working Americans across the country.”
“Hundreds of thousands of hardworking men and women call Texas’ 14th Congressional District home, and this tax season, they’re finally seeing what real relief looks like,” said Rep. Randy Weber (TX-14). “Some folks said it sounded too good to be true, but we got it done. We passed it, President Trump signed it, and now it’s delivering for the people who keep this country running. Wins like this bring the American Dream within reach again for families not only across the great state of Texas, but across this great nation.”
"I am grateful that this year millions of American families will receive significantly larger tax cuts, thanks to the leadership of President Donald Trump and House Republicans. Due to the historic 'Working Families Tax Cut Act,’ South Carolinian working families will save over $3,300 of their own money,” said Rep. Joe Wilson (SC-02).
“Working families are the backbone of our communities and our economy, and they deserve tax relief that rewards hard work. I will continue to support policies which strengthen our workforce, grow small businesses, and ensure North Carolina families can thrive,” said Rep. David Rouzer (NC-07).
“I’ve heard firsthand from families, farmers, and business owners across southern Minnesota how the Working Families Tax Cuts are making a real difference. By delivering permanent, meaningful tax relief, these tax cuts are reducing costs for our ag producers, empowering Main Street, and letting hardworking families keep more of their paychecks,”said Rep. Brad Finstad (MN-01). “I’m proud of our work on RSC to advance these pro-growth policies that are delivering real investments for the farmers and small businesses that drive our economy and putting real dollars back in the pockets of the American people.”
"Tax Day is usually a day many hardworking Americans dread, but the Working Families Tax Cut has changed that for families across the country. This law didn’t just stop the largest tax hike in our nation’s history—it delivered real, immediate relief for the people who keep this country running with new tax deductions for tips, overtime, and car loan interest. As Americans file their returns, the proof is undeniable: 11 percent bigger refunds. It’s real relief for real people—right where it’s needed most,” said Rep. Aaron Bean (FL-04).
"Millions of Americans are receiving significantly larger tax refunds this year thanks to the landmark Working Families Tax Cuts—ensuring families, farmers, small businesses, and workers keep more of their hard-earned money. I was proud to work with my colleagues and President Trump to deliver real results and real savings for hardworking Georgians,"said Rep. Rick Allen (GA-12).
“Tax day is here, and this year brings more than a deadline. This filing season is anticipated to deliver meaningful savings for Americans, with early reports showing average refunds are up 11 percent. I am proud of the tax cuts achieved in Congress’s H.R. 1, the Working Families Tax Cuts law. By permanently extending the doubled standard deduction, reducing the tax burden on seniors, and eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay, this landmark package is putting more money back in the pockets of American families and delivering tangible, positive economic benefits,” said Rep. Russ Fulcher (ID-01).
“On Tax Day, families across Florida and the country are seeing real relief because House Republicans delivered on our promise to cut taxes. The Working Families Tax Cuts are putting more money back in the pockets of hardworking Americans, supporting small businesses, and giving our agricultural producers the certainty they need to keep feeding our nation. This is what Americans mandated back in 2024 and Republicans are delivering,” said Rep. Greg Steube (FL-17).
"This Tax Day, remember: without President Trump and Republicans, Democrats would have imposed the largest tax hike in history. Instead, Americans are seeing real savings from the One Big Beautiful Bill,” said Rep. Lance Gooden (TX-05).
“The Working Families Tax Cut is a major victory for families, servers, small businesses, and agricultural communities across the country. I will always fight to ensure the hardworking Americans of Illinois’ 15th District keep more of what they earn. This historic tax cut was passed thanks to Republicans, while every Democrat in Congress opposed it,”said Rep. Mary Miller (IL-15).
“This tax day, families and small businesses across Western Minnesota are seeing the benefits of the Working Families Tax Cuts. From the family farms that power our economy to the small businesses on Main Street, these cuts ensure that dollars stay in the pockets of those who earned them. By lowering the tax burden on our farmers, job creators, and working families, we are securing a stronger future for Greater Minnesota,” said Rep. Michelle Fischbach (MN-07).
“I grew up believing that if you work hard and play by the rules, you should be able to build a better life in America. That’s what the Working Families Tax Cuts are all about. This Tax Day, Americans are seeing bigger refunds, lower taxes and real relief. We are rewarding work, helping families keep more of what they earn and giving job creators the certainty they need to grow. This is how we restore opportunity and keep the American Dream alive for the next generation,” said Rep. Vern Buchanan (FL-16).
“Hardworking Americans are reaping the benefits of the Working Families Tax Cuts, with the average tax refund being 11 percent higher compared to last year,” said Congressman Nehls. “The average taxpayer in the great state of Texas will see a tax cut of over $4,000. Millions of Americans are claiming No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, and more, all thanks to the historic legislation passed by my Republican colleagues and me and signed into law by President Trump. The Working Families Tax Cuts puts more money in the pockets of Americans and provides relief for American families,” said Rep. Troy Nehls (TX-22).
“This tax season, Americans are seeing real relief from the Working Families Tax Cuts, not just on paper, but in their returns,” said Rep. Scott Franklin (FL-18). “Millions of families are already benefiting, from expanded deductions for seniors to workers keeping more of their tips and overtime. Refunds are up, and more money is staying in people’s pockets. After years of higher costs, that’s meaningful progress, and we will keep pushing policies that lower costs and reward hard work.”
"Because of the WFTC, Americans are now keeping more of what they earn. As a member on the Ways and Means Committee, I was privileged to help lead the charge to give American families more financial freedom. Standing alone, the WFTC not only helped to avoid the largest tax increase in American history, but it went further to reduce taxes even more and cut regulations that were strangling economic growth for families, farmers and businesses across the U.S. At the same time, it cut spending more than twice as much as any other Congress in American history by attacking waste, fraud, and abuse. There is more to do, but this was a historic step forward and a major win for the liberty that comes with lower taxes and lower regulations,” said Rep. Nathaniel Moran (TX-01).
“For Will Minshall, a young farmer in Pickaway County whose family farm will celebrate 200 years of operation next year, the increase and permanence of the Death Tax exemption in President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cuts creates greater certainty that his family can pass the farm on to him and future generations. With family farms making up 96 percent of all farms in my district, this is welcome news for southern Ohio. Paired with expanded support for agricultural trade programs and a strong investment in crop insurance, these measures will give family farmers the stability and confidence to continue feeding our families for years to come. Thank you, President Trump!” said Rep. Dave Taylor (OH-02).
“Tennessee is home to more than 63,000 farms covering 10.7 million acres. Our farmers and ranchers do more than just put food on our tables. Since the founding of this country, farmers have been integral in shaping the American way of life. Yet, for too long, their contributions have been overlooked. The Working Families Tax Cut begins to change that. By lowering borrowing costs and easing the burden of the estate tax, it gives producers more room to operate and plan for the future. Restoring 100 percent immediate expensing means farmers can invest in the equipment they need without delay. Instead of putting obstacles in their path, this approach clears the way for growth. The result is stronger family-owned farms, more resilient rural economies, and an estimated $10 billion in savings for farmers across the country,” said Rep. Matt Van Epps (TN-07).
"On Tax Day, it should not feel like Washington is taking more than you can afford to give. I fought to deliver real relief for working families: no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, and a $6,000 deduction for seniors on Social Security because you should keep more of what you earn," said Congressman Haridopolos. "It is your money, and you know best how to provide for your family. I will keep working to put taxpayers first and deliver results that matter,” said Rep. Mike Haridopolos (FL-08).
“The federal government has a spending problem, not a revenue problem. Every single Democrat voted against the largest tax cut in U.S. history, yet they’re always eager to spend taxpayer money on wasteful handouts. Alongside my Republican colleagues, I’m proud to have helped deliver real tax relief for my constituents. Hardworking men and women go to work every day to provide for their families – keeping the government’s hands out of their pocketbooks is essential to improving their lives,” said Rep. Craig Goldman (TX-12).
“Affordability doesn’t just happen, it comes from responsible policy that puts working Americans first. For years, the Democrats’ reckless spending and burdensome regulatory regime drove up costs and made it harder for families to get ahead. That approach leaves people more dependent on the government, exactly what Democrats want. House Republicans delivered the Working Families Tax Cuts because we believe people who earn a paycheck should keep more of it. This isn’t about promises or temporary relief, it’s about real, lasting returns for hardworking Americans. This tax season, families are seeing the difference. They’re keeping more of what they’ve worked for, not just for today, but for years to come. That’s how we strengthen our economy, support our communities, and ensure future generations have the opportunity to succeed,” said Rep. Bob Onder (MO-03).
“As a member of the House Budget Committee, I’m proud of the work Republicans did to keep our promise and deliver the largest tax cut in history,” said Rep. Addison McDowell (NC-09). “Through the Working Families Tax Cuts, families across America – and right here in North Carolina’s 6th – are finally got relief from the damaging policies of the Biden administration that hit their wallets and our economy as a whole. House Republicans delivered for working families.”
“Hoosiers are seeing the positive effects of the Working Families Tax Cuts Act this tax season. The no tax on tips and no tax on overtime provisions are leading to real, increased take home pay for many hard-working families. Our average taxpayer is going to see a tax cut of over $3,000 this year. I am proud the tax relief President Trump and my fellow Republicans have delivered to working class America after four harsh years under the Biden administration,” said Rep. Marlin Stutzman (IN-03).
