WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: Republican Study Committee Members Applaud President Trump and Secretary Kennedy for Protecting Children from Irreversible Harm

December 22, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C.  The Republican Study Committee (RSC) commends President Trump, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for the policies announced late last week aimed at protecting children from irreversible sex-trait altering procedures. The Department’s proposal to prevent hospitals from performing sex-trait altering procedures on children represents the single greatest effort to protect young people from being subjected to gender mutilation, and aligns with longstanding RSC priorities.

The RSC has long been at the forefront of the fight to expose the Left’s radical gender identity agenda, and to protect children and American society more broadly from the acute threat posed by sex-trait altering procedures. Just last week, the House passed two key bills introduced by RSC Members aimed at protecting children from being subjected to gender mutilation, Congressman Dan Crenshaw’s Do No Harm in Medicaid Act and Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Protect Children’s Innocence Act. Earlier in the year, RSC Member Rep. Bob Onder sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessenturging the Treasury Department to declassify “gender transition procedures” as a qualified medical expense.

Here's what RSC Members are Saying About the Announcement:

“I applaud President Trump and Secretary Kennedy for taking decisive action to protect children from irreversible, sexual lobotomies. Subjecting children to sex-rejecting drugs and surgeries is medical malpractice, not health care, and taxpayers should never be forced to subsidize it. I fully support this action to stop hospitals from mutilating minors under the guise of ‘care’ and to put science, reality, and child protection back at the center of our health system," said RSC Article One Task Force Chair Harriet Hageman (WY-AL).

“The dark days of subjecting children like Chloe Cole to irreversible harm that they cannot consent to are over. Secretary Kennedy’s announcement today will protect children, their families, and the majority of doctors who want to uphold their promise to ‘do no harm’.  I thank President Trump and Secretary Kennedy for their leadership on this crucial issue. The Administration is banning all hospitals, clinics, and providers that accept federal funding from performing these experimental and dangerous procedures on children. This will effectively end the practice of chemical and surgical mutilation in the United States,”said Rep. Bob Onder (MO-03).

“For years, the Biden administration allowed ideology to override science and common sense while families paid the price. I’m grateful to see President Trump and HHS Secretary Kennedy restore accountability, reinforce biological reality, and put the well-being of children first. Protecting kids shouldn’t be controversial, and I will continue fighting in Congress to ensure parents are the decision makers when it comes to their child’s health. As a mom, a grandmother, and a lifelong advocate for parental rights, I strongly support these actions to end the dangerous, unproven medical interventions being pushed on vulnerable children," said Rep. Diana Harshbarger (TN-01).
