WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: The (Tax) Returns Are In...And They're Historic
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Veterans, small business owners, bartenders, gig workers, and working moms gathered on Capitol Hill on Tax Day to highlight the real-world impact of the Working Families Tax Cuts. Republican Study Committee (RSC) Members joined the roundtable to hear their stories firsthand—proof that the historic legislation, which extended the 2017 Trump Tax Cuts, eliminated taxes on tips and overtime, and delivered the largest pro-family tax reform in a generation, is working.
Here's what they are saying — and this year, Tax Day is actually worth celebrating:
Will McLoughlin, Founder, Ameri-CANS: "The tax savings came to $4.4 million last year. That was almost a one-for-one with what it cost us to expand into Texas...We have 200 employees, we've donated $1.2 million to veteran mental health and Gold Star families, and we just expanded into Texas. None of that happens without these tax cuts."
Dennis Ferrigno, Founder, Executive Beverage: "For guys like Ramsay (a bartender), who has a newborn and uses his tips for diapers and rent, being able to take $25,000 right off the top before taxes are even assessed is a game-changer. God bless America and God bless the Members who got this done."
Lyndsey Fifield, Stay-at-Home Mom, Independent Women's Forum: "I have 13 friends who are pregnant right now and every one of them feels like the system is working against them. The Trump Accounts give them peace of mind — and that's not a small thing. This is money that will actually be there for their children at 18, and that's everything."
Nate D'Amico, Bartender, Virtue Feed and Grain: "No tax on tips is a bigger pay raise than anything a lot of my coworkers have gotten at their full-time jobs in years. And they don't have to wait on a refund — that money stays in their hands every single week."
Kevin McEwin, DoorDash Driver: "I saved the equivalent of a month's mortgage on my tax bill. As an independent contractor, that matters."
Alex Butterworth, Lead Investor, Butterworth's: "This is probably the only area where we're seeing any relief as a business right now. It's great for our staff, great for the business, and great for people who want to invest in their communities."
Jorge Martinez, Defend Forgotten America: "This is not just about tax policy. It's about dignity. It's about people knowing that if they work hard, they can build a life and not just scrape by."
Grover Norquist, President, Americans for Tax Reform: "We haven't had permanent tax rates for individuals since Reagan in 1986. That permanence lets people hire, invest, and create jobs with certainty — and that changes everything."
