RSC Adopts Official Position on Amendments to American Health Care Act

March 9, 2017

WASHINGTON – The Republican Study Committee (RSC) unanimously adopted official positions today in support of amendments before the Energy and Commerce Committee as it continues its markup of the American Health Care Act.

First, the RSC officially supports amendments offered by Reps. Joe Barton (R-Texas) and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) to freeze new enrollment in Obamacare's Medicaid expansion at the enhanced federal medical percentage at the end of calendar 2017.

Second, the RSC officially supports an amendment offered by Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-Va.) to institute work requirements for able-bodied, childless adults on Medicaid.

"The RSC remains committed to improving this bill and getting it right for the American people," said RSC Chairman Mark Walker (R-N.C.). "This morning, the RSC's Steering Committee was united in support of these important amendments, and I urge my colleagues on the Energy and Commerce Committee to adopt them. While I continue to have concerns about this bill, the adoption of these amendments would be a critical step in the right direction."

The RSC Chairman takes an official position on an issue when RSC Steering Committee members, the RSC's governing board, recommends it by a two-thirds majority vote.
