Washington - Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement after the Protecting Seniors' Access to Medicare Act of 2017 (H.R. 849) passed the House of Representatives:
Today's vote to repeal Obamacare's Independent Payment Advisory Board is part of keeping our promise to the American people to repeal Obamacare. Unelected bureaucrats should never be empowered to make decisions to cut Medicare, threatening seniors' access to care without proper accountability to Congress and the American people. I urge Mitch McConnell to not let this bill fall by the wayside in order for Congress to deliver the health care reform Americans need.
Background: In September Chairman Walker announced RSC's 3 Promises for 3 Months Initiative. Along with securing the border and reforming the tax code, the RSC is working to continue any and all efforts to repeal Obamacare.
IPAB repeal is a victory in the fight to repeal Obamacare and shield the American people from the ACA's devastating impacts. RSC Member Phil Roe has lead this effort since 2011 and we acknowledge his efforts fighting for doctors, patients, hospitals, and the entire health care community.
