RSC MEMBERS INTRODUCE SIX BILLS TO HOLD THE CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY ACCOUNTABLE
WASHINGTON – The Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman Mike Johnson (LA-04) today released the following statement after members of the RSC introduced six bills based on recommendations from the RSC's National Security Strategy: Strengthening America & Countering Global Threats (click here to view the full report) to counter Chinese Communist Party (CCP) aggression:
"Conservatives are leading the charge in confronting our nation's greatest threat--the Chinese Communist Party--for its malign influence, brazen IP theft, and brutal oppression of minorities. I'm pleased to see these strong policy solutions from our Republican Study Committee's National Security Strategy introduced, and I will continue to work with my colleagues to advance these ideas and hold the CCP accountable," said Johnson.
Legislation introduced from RSC's National Security Strategy: Strengthening America & Countering Global Threats
- H.R. 8846, Accountability for Persistent Intellectual Property Theft Act – Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH)
- Would require the Department of Treasury to compile a list of Chinese companies with a pattern of stealing the intellectual property of U.S. companies, and then require the department to sanction those companies.
- H.R. 8831 – Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO)
- Would codify the Department of Commerce's ability to issue Denial Orders in relation to companies with a pattern of breaking U.S. laws.
- H.R. 8764, Stop China's IP Theft Act – Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AR)
- Would prohibit the entry of senior CCP officials and active People's Liberation Army officers from entering the U.S. until the Director of National Intelligence can certify that China has stopped sponsoring the theft of US intellectual property.
- H.R. 8777, Chinese Communist Party Visa Disclosure Act of 2020 – Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL)
- Would require that visa applications are updated to require a disclosure of any funds provided to the applicant by the Chinese government or Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
- H.R. 8878, No Funds to China's Military Act 2020 – Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC)
- Would ban the use of federal dollars to purchase goods and services from companies effectively controlled by the People's Liberation Army (PLA).
- H.R. 8883, Reporting Exogenous Participation Among Incoming Researchers (REPAIR) in Academia Act – Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC)
- Would require visa sponsors for foreign academics to notify the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) when a recipient participates in federally funded research and allow the revocation of such visas if participation is deemed a risk.
