WASHINGTON – Republican Study Committee Chairman Mike Johnson (R-La.) today released the following statement after voting in favor of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA):
"President Trump and House Republicans promised a trade deal that finally puts America first. Today, we delivered.
"While I'm disappointed Democrats needlessly held it up for more than a year, I'm proud to have helped get the USMCA across the finish line so it can finally bring more jobs, higher wages and greater opportunities to hardworking Americans.
WASHINGTON – Republican Study Committee Chairman Mike Johnson (R-La.) today released the following statement after voting against a $1.37 trillion spending bill – totaling more than 2,300 pages – that was fast-tracked through the House in less than 24 hours:
"I cannot in good conscience vote for a trillion-dollar spending bill that was handed to me less than 24 hours ago. With an unprecedented $23 trillion national debt, it's time for Congress to stop rubber-stamping these colossal spending packages and start exercising a little fiscal responsibility. Voters demand it, taxpayers deserve it and the future security of our nation depends on it."

WASHINGTON – Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman Mike Johnson (R-La.) released the following statement regarding the spending caps deal:
"As conservatives, it is our responsibility to provide fiscally sound solutions that will ensure the continued security and prosperity of our great nation. Unfortunately, the current spending deal fails to meet reasonable guidelines outlined by the RSC. Specifically, this proposal increases spending by about $2 trillion over the next decade but only provides $77 billion in offsets, about half of which appear to come from raising customs fees. No new controls are put in place to constrain runaway spending, and a two-year suspension on the debt limit simply adds fuel to the fire. |
WASHINGTON – Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman Mike Johnson (R-La.) and RSC Budget and Spending Task Force Chairman Jim Banks (R-Ind.) released the following statement regarding reports of a potential budget caps deal:
"House conservatives are deeply concerned about the latest reports regarding the status of a budget caps deal. We commend the White House for recognizing the need to extend budget caps while providing offsets, but the extent to which these tools are apparently being used, and the reported size of the tentative deal, do not meet the minimal standards the RSC has set forth. Reports indicate this deal would be a far cry from the fiscally responsible path represented by President Trump's budget request. |
