Washington – Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement after the White House unveiled the Executive Order on Reducing Poverty in America by Promoting Opportunity and Economic Mobility.

"Welfare reform is about hope, not judgement. I applaud the President for laying out principles and making welfare reform a priority for his administration. Now it is up to Congress to pass legislation to promote earned success through the dignity of work. We need to eliminate marriage penalties, allow flexibility for the states, fight fraud and recognize the importance of civil society in fighting poverty.

Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement after the House Judiciary Committee announced a vote on a Balanced Budget Amendment on the House Floor:

"I am grateful to House Leadership for honoring their commitment to vote on a Balanced Budget Amendment. Washington has demonstrated time and time again it lacks the political will to make the tough decisions required to contain the growth of government and spend within its means. Funding our present on the backs of our children and grandchildren is not compassionate or just. Leading responsibly so they may thrive and prosper is."

"At the RSC, our mission of bringing conservatives together to limit government, strengthen our national defense, boost America's economy, preserve traditional values and balance our budget is as important as ever as our debt reaches $21 trillion," said RSC Chairman Mark Walker. "With Dan's impressive track record, we will continue to pull legislation to the right."

Washington - Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement after the release of the omnibus text:

"For several years, Republicans were justifiably critical of the Obama administration's spending levels driving up the national debt. Even worse was the intentional bleeding of our defense creating a new national security concern. Due to the intentional weakening by the previous administration, our military readiness is grossly lacking if called on to defend our country.

Washington– Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement on President Trump's tariffs announcement:

"The rationale for these tariffs is to retaliate against bad trade actors. As announced, they will be broad tariffs with a few temporary exceptions. President Trump deserves credit for his consistency calling out such bad actors, but it is imperative that we target these rogue players to remedy the situation instead of implementing across-the-board tariffs that are effectively taxes."

Washington - Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement on the President's Fiscal Year 2019 Budget:

"The annual deficit is expected to be over $1 trillion for the next fiscal year. With what is possibly our last chance as a Republican Congress to set ourselves on a fiscally responsible course, the House and Senate Budget Committees need to take President Trump's proposal for over $1.7 trillion in mandatory spending reductions seriously. This means the House and Senate need to actually pass a concurrent budget resolution with mandatory saving targets and use reconciliation to reduce the deficit. Anything less is a failure in doing our duty to provide a framework that prevents America's impending fiscal crisis."

Washington – Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement on the recently announced Budget Deal: "Our military suffered tremendously under the Obama era of defense cuts and reductions. Every Republican in the Republican Study Committee supports a strong defense. However, Republicans are being offered a false choice today: either support the military or maintain fiscal discipline. I am disappointed this deal creates friction among Republicans who believe in both. We are committed to defend our families with more tanks and planes but we must also protect future generations by freeing them from an insurmountable debt crippling any hope of pursuing the American dream."

The Steering Committee of the Republican Study Committee released the following statement on the Securing America's Future Act (H.R. 4760):

"The Securing America's Future Act is the framework to strengthen border security, increase interior enforcement and resolve the DACA situation. We believe an eventual stand alone floor vote is essential. We oppose any process for a DACA solution that favors a backroom deal with Democrats over regular order in the House."
