Washington - Today, the House of Representatives voted to pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 36). Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement:
All people have the inalienable rights to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. Today's bill marks an important step in protecting these rights for the most vulnerable among us - the unborn. Today's vote in the House of Representatives is a sign of hope the tide is turning on this important issue. I urge Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to not let this important, life-saving bill get thrown on the pile of more than 270 House-passed bills that await Senate passage.

Washington - Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement in response to the tax reform framework released today:
"At first glance the policies released today are good news to the American people. I am proud to see that a large part of the Republican Study Committee's submission to the tax reform task force was incorporated into today's framework. We need to begin acting on this framework legislatively as soon as possible.
"Republicans have to keep our promises to the American people on tax reform, repealing Obamacare, and securing the border before the end of the year."

WASHINGTON - Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman Rep. Mark Walker (NC-06) released the following statement in response to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin calling to attach aid for Hurricane Harvey to raising the debt ceiling:
"What happened in Texas is a tragedy and it needs an urgent Congressional response. Congress is united behind this effort, but I worry about jeopardizing an agreement with such legislative games. Our obligation is to assist those impacted by this great flood, but it's past time the swamp waters in DC begin receding as well. That starts with being both compassionate and fiscally responsible. These two principles are not at odds.

WASHINGTON - Republican Study Committee (RSC) Chairman Mark Walker (NC-06) released the following statement of support for a discharge petition for a clean repeal of Obamacare:
"Republicans already sent this bill to the president in 2016, and should do it again. The only thing that changed since then is that with Donald Trump as president, this bill would actually be signed into law. This repeal should be the bare minimum Republicans pass on Obamacare as it fulfills the promise we all made to repeal Obamacare. I look forward to signing this petition on the House Floor when we return from recess."

RSC Chairman Mark Walker wrote in the Washington Examiner to oppose a clean debt ceiling increase. You can read the full text below or access the op-ed here.
A clean debt ceiling is dirty politics
Our national debt now stands at $20 trillion. That's $146,000 for every American household. Just mentioning such a terrifying number should be redundant at this point, but recent announcements by the U.S. Treasury Department pushing for a "clean" debt ceiling increase by the end of September demonstrates that the point bears repeating.
