Press Releases
Washington - Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement on the President's Fiscal Year 2019 Budget:
"The annual deficit is expected to be over $1 trillion for the next fiscal year. With what is possibly our last chance as a Republican Congress to set ourselves on a fiscally responsible course, the House and Senate Budget Committees need to take President Trump's proposal for over $1.7 trillion in mandatory spending reductions seriously. This means the House and Senate need to actually pass a concurrent budget resolution with mandatory saving targets and use reconciliation to reduce the deficit. Anything less is a failure in doing our duty to provide a framework that prevents America's impending fiscal crisis."
The Steering Committee of the Republican Study Committee released the following statement on the Securing America's Future Act (H.R. 4760):
"The Securing America's Future Act is the framework to strengthen border security, increase interior enforcement and resolve the DACA situation. We believe an eventual stand alone floor vote is essential. We oppose any process for a DACA solution that favors a backroom deal with Democrats over regular order in the House."
Washington - Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement greeting the 45th Annual March for Life:
"The March for Life is a bittersweet event. On one hand, it commemorates a great atrocity on America's conscience: abortion. On other hand, it is uplifting to see so many young people come out year after year in the bitter cold to fight for the rights of unborn children. On this 45th anniversary of the March for Life, the pro-life community should also be praised for their work the other 364 days of the year in helping all mothers and children."
Washington - Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement after House passage of the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (H.R. 4712):
"Today's vote reaffirms the intrinsic value of all life. The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act is a common-sense bill that recognizes that all children born alive should be provided the same protections, regardless of circumstances of their birth. This bill makes it clear that the killing of a child who has been born alive is a clear act of murder."
Washington - The Steering Committee of the Republican Study Committee released the following statement calling for the release of the classified report on the FBI/DOJ Collusion Investigation:
"The revelations contained in the memo prepared by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence have a compelling public interest and must be declassified and released as soon as possible. We call on the Committee to vote to declassify the report and allow for a vote on the House floor to make it public as soon as possible, after ensuring all information is void of any national security risk."
Washington - Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement following the failure of passage of the Continuing Resolution in the Senate:
"Let's be clear: Democrats are holding funding for our troops hostage for 700,000 illegal immigrants. Republicans stand ready to fund the government with Democrat support when they decide to stop putting the needs of illegal immigrants above American citizens."
WASHINGTON - Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement after final passage of tax reform:
"Today's vote honors the promise Republicans made to the American people to reform the tax code and repeal Obamacare. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act fulfills the better part of a decade of policy work and I'm proud that the Republican Study Committee played a large part every step of the way. With the repeal of the individual mandate, we also eliminate one of the most oppressive federal statutes in American history. The passage of this historic bill only shows that when Republicans unite behind conservative ideas and work together, we can do great things."
WASHINGTON – Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker released the following statement after passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (H.R. 1) in the House of Representatives:
"A little over one year ago, Americans elected a unified Republican government based on the promise that we would reform the tax code and repeal Obamacare. With today's vote, the House keeps our word by completely overhauling our tax system and repealing the onerous individual mandate of Obamacare. I urge the Senate to pass this bill without changes."
